30 years ago, OAPL began as a private, patient-oriented business in Australia’s nascent orthotics market. What was available wasn’t always satisfactory. So we manufactured our own, beginning with the Unistrap Ankle. Using our clinics as a testing ground for what did and didn’t work, we designed, developed, manufactured and perfected. When gaps outside our immediate area of expertise presented themselves, we sought innovation from others. We went overseas, we sourced new leading edge products, components, materials and technologies, and introduced them to Australia. The goal was to provide patients with the best outcomes possible. We weren't motivated by turnover or margins, we were driven to innovate - to expand patients potential for recovery, rehabilitation, and functionality through the use of new technologies. Where we led, others followed.
15 years ago, we leveraged our capability in manufacturing medical grade hosiery to introduce Anti-Embolism stockings. Today, neural plasticity – the capacity for the brain to change and adapt – has triggered a revolution in the rehabilitation field, and OAPL has kept pace, well ahead of the pack. We are the first providers to introduce ground-breaking technologies such as WalkAide and InMotion Arm to the Australian market, thereby redefining parameters for recovery and independence. With each new technology, OAPL has demonstrated leadership through its educational programs and support. We explain the benefits; teach you, your staff, and you patients, how to use new devices; and continue with in-person, real life support through our wholesale division and clinics. To complete the circle, 10 years ago we acquired an equipment and consumables operation, enabling us to offer clients everything – from the most sophisticated instruments and technologies to the most common, but essential elements – necessary to operate their clinics.
