🧧 Happy Lunar New Year!
🐉 新年快乐!
🐎 Chúc Mừng Năm Mới!
🏮 Gong Hei Fat Cho!
🎇 새해 복 많이 받으세요!

Each year, Registered Nurse Lilian decorates 3 East Admissions to help welcome a new year of happiness and good fortune for staff and patients.

“Everyone celebrates differently, from doing a deep home clean to leave last year’s bad luck behind, to visiting a temple to honour ancestors, or simply gathering with loved ones to enjoy festival food. Lunar New Year is a time of joy, connection and abundance.”

Traditionally, Lunar New Year banners are hung to invite good fortune and ward off bad luck. At 3 East, they translate to:

🌟 May all your wishes come true, and may you have eternal peace (left)
🍊 Good fortune, happiness and lasting wealth (right)

If you celebrate Lunar New Year, the RMH wishes you a wonderful Year of the Horse! ❤️

Our first graduate nurse cohort for 2026 has arrived! 🏥🎉

Today, we welcomed 87 graduate nurses to the RMH, including Laura (left) and Sumaya (right), as they begin their careers with us.

Laura is starting her first rotation in perioperative services as a scrub and scout nurse, supporting surgical teams by maintaining sterile fields, managing documentation, handling instruments, and keeping procedures running smoothly.

Sumaya is looking forward to starting as a perianaesthesia nurse, providing care and support to our patients before, during, and after anaesthesia.

If you see any of our new graduates around, please say hi and help make them feel welcome as they settle into life at the RMH. 👋

People travelling on all other lines can access the Metro Tunnel services by changing at Flinders Street or Melbourne Central stations.

🌈 Last weekend, our people donned some glitter, popped on diamantes and marched down Fitzroy Street for the annual Midsumma Pride March.

🏳️‍🌈 Some of our allies were new to the march, while others have been walking this path for years, each step shaped by Pride’s long history of standing up for LGBTIQA+ lives. Dancing along to our Scrub Choir’s remix of Good Luck, Babe!, the day was full of colour, connection, and joyful noise.

Associate Nurse Unit Manager Maria has marched in Midsumma for three consecutive years, advocating for a stronger, more united health community at the RMH.

🏳️‍⚧️ We are here for everyone under the rainbow, supporting people through their hospital journey and working alongside multidisciplinary teams, including our LGBTIQA+ Patient Liaison Service, to help build safer, more inclusive care, every day.

📣 Calling all First Nations artists! 📣

We’re seeking artists living in Victoria to create mural artworks reflecting the five Traditional Owner Countries of the Kulin Nations. 🖤❤️💛

Artists may live on or off Country but must still hold cultural connection to Country and Community.

These murals will become part of RMH’s identity, sharing the rich and diverse cultural knowledge of First Nations peoples, and expressing what health, healing, community and connection mean through visual storytelling.

To submit your Expression of Interest or find out more, email FNHLO@mh.org.au. Expressions of Interest close Friday, 27 February 2026.

📸 Artwork currently displayed across RMH, acknowledging First Nations cultures and Country, and helping create welcoming spaces for patients, visitors and staff.

🌈 Yesterday, we joined the colour, glitz, and glamour at this year’s Midsumma Pride March in St Kilda!

We march in solidarity and support of members of the LGBTIQA+ community – including people who have marched before us and people who are no longer with us.

We’re committed to driving continual improvement, making the RMH an inclusive, safe and welcoming environment for all.

It’s another scorcher of a day in Victoria ☀️

High temperatures increase the risk of serious heat-related illnesses. Be kind, check in on people who may need extra support, and look out for each other. Early signs of heat-related illness include:

🥵 Thirst and dehydration
😵‍💫 Feeling lethargic and dizzy
🤕 Having headaches

If you or someone you’re with is vomiting, feeling persistently nauseous, or unable to keep fluids down, head to your local emergency department.

Stay safe and cool, everybody.

Today, we reflect on the many meanings 26 January holds across our community.

For some, it is a day to celebrate new citizenship or what they value about Australia. For others, it is a day of mourning and reflection.

The RMH acknowledges the ongoing pain this day represents for many First Nations communities and recognises the Kulin Nations as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our services are located.

As one of Victoria’s largest health services, we are committed to providing world-class care for everyone. We continue our work toward Reconciliation and healthcare equity through our Reconciliation Action Plan and our commitment to culturally safe care.

Our care is for everyone. We strive to create safe, supportive environments that respect the rights, dignity and value of people of all backgrounds and identities.

Today is a National Day of Mourning in memory of the victims of the Bondi terror attack.

We pause to remember the victims and stand with all those impacted, particularly their families and communities. In the face of violence, we choose care, kindness and humanity. Light continues to rise above darkness.

Our thoughts are with the Jewish community and anyone affected by this tragedy.

You are welcome here. The Parkville Local Health Service Network is a place of safety, dignity and belonging.

If you, or someone you care about, needs support, confidential help is available.

Hospital care from the comfort of your home? Yes please! 🏡

This week we’re excited to have officially opened our virtual ward as part of Victoria’s first Virtual Hospital Pilot program, delivered in partnership with Austin Health.

In an exciting new way to deliver care beyond the RMH’s walls, the virtual ward supports patients with heart failure and those recovering from cardiac surgery who would otherwise need a hospital stay, to recover safely at home.

Instead of being admitted to hospital, eligible patients will be given wearable monitoring devices to track vital signs and recovery progress from home, with data securely shared to the patient’s hospital record so care teams can monitor them in real time. 👩🏻‍💻

They will also receive a daily, virtual check-in. 👩‍⚕️

Of course, only patients who are an appropriate fit will be admitted to virtual wards - but for those who are eligible or choose to take part, we’re excited to be able to provide innovative, world-class care closer to home.

Ben, pictured right, said the wearable devices will make a major difference for these patients and their recovery.

“For the first time, we are using wearable remote monitoring devices to monitor vital signs while patients are at home.

“This delivers a level of clinical oversight that has traditionally only been possible in hospital.”
