When “I wonder…” starts to feel overused, try this instead.

Curiosity builds safety, connection, and emotional expression in play therapy and beyond!
Here are gentle phrases that work just as beautifully.

Hear me out… instead of asking kids direct questions that can feel overwhelming or intrusive… try leaning into curiosity.

In play therapy, “I wonder…” statements act like an open door, gentle, pressure free & child led.
This phrasing helps children feel safer, more in control, and more understood.

Examples you can start using today:
🌱 “I wonder what you’re hoping that does…”
🌱 “I wonder if that part felt tricky…”
🌱 “I wonder what you need right now…”

This one tiny language shift can transform emotional safety & deepen connection in the playroom.

When Words Fall Short, Play Speaks Loudest

In play therapy, children show us what they feel before they can tell us.
A child who’s been left out might become the “mean kid,” saying:“You can’t play with us. Go away!”

It’s not bad behaviour, it’s communication.
Through play, the therapist steps into their story, helping big feelings feel safe, seen, and understood.

Because in the playroom…
✨ Play isn’t just play, it becomes a child’s voice. 🎤

Bubble breathing, I recommend as a therapist & mum.
The simple trick kids love.🫧

Bubble breathing a fun, playful way to help kids (& parents!) find their calm when big feelings show up.

Here’s how you can try it at home
✨ Grab some bubbles or just pretend you have them
✨ Take a slow breath in through your nose
✨ Gently blow out through your mouth, slow enough to make a big, wobbly bubble
✨ Watch it float away, taking those worries with it

Sometimes, the best way to teach mindfulness… is through play. 💛

This is just one tool in your parenting toolbox, because let’s be real… we don’t always have a bottle of bubbles handy (unless you run, don’t walk, to Kmart!).

Ever wondered what’s really behind a smile?……

Every smile tells a story.

In play therapy, we learn that a child’s smile can mean so much more than happiness, it can be courage, hope, or even a way of saying, “I’m trying my best.”

Stories like When I Smile help children explore what feelings live behind their smiles, building emotional awareness, resilience, & connection.

If your child finds it hard to share feelings or worries, play therapy offers a safe space to explore what words can’t always say.

ADHD doesn’t need to be fixed it needs to be understood.

I use Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) to support children with ADHD in understanding themselves & healing from the stress of being differently wired in a world that isn’t always accommodating.

When the nervous system feels safe, executive functioning skills naturally begin to flourish.

Connection first, skills second.

Through CCPT, children:
Build self-awareness
Strengthen self-advocacy
Experience emotional regulation through play

Because when a child feels seen & accepted, they begin to truly thrive.

If you’re curious about how CCPT can support your child’s journey with ADHD, get in touch.

Play is a child’s practice ground where they try, feel, fail & try again.
Just like adults learn through experience, reflection & courage, children do the same!
Only their classroom is play.

Through play, they’re building resilience, confidence & the skills they’ll carry for life.
