A common characteristic that ADHDers and other neurodivergent people experience is referred to as Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD).
RSD occurs when ADHDers experience heightened sensitivity to perceived rejection or criticism and in turn feel immense feelings of emotional pain 💔
This sense of rejection can be a response to others words or actions 🥺
It can also happen in response to the ADHDers own self-talk, when they perceive they believe they have made a mistake or failed in some way 🤦
It is an amplified sense of not being "good enough" 😫
This sense of not being enough contributes to other commonly reported challenges by ADHDers, including Social Anxiety, Perfectionism, hyper-competitiveness, and Imposter Syndrome 🥸
What is important to understand is that RSD is the flipside of being wired for connection💫
ADHDers love to be loved, admired, respected, and validated ❤️
They love making people laugh, often love the spotlight, and make amazing performers 🌟
When they are in the zone they light up the room and the lives of people around them 🙌
Being wired for connection has a huge adaptive advantage for human beings, who by nature are a social species that rely on cooperation to survive and thrive 🌱
RSD is really just about being deeply wired for connection, and that’s ok! 💖
Remember that you are enough, as you are! 👏🙏
