Today I want to discuss my thoughts around Emotions
With everything going on in the world today and everyone being restricted to their homes, a lot of people are dealing with a whole range of emotions and do not always understand or know what to do with them. Understanding what is going on for you right now can remove a lot of the angst.
The Kübler-Ross model
1 DENIAL - Avoidance, Confusion, Elation, Shock, Fear
2 ANGER - Frustration, Irritation, Anxiety
3 DEPRESSION - Overwhelmed, helplessness, Hostility, Fight
4 BARGAINING - Struggle to find Meaning, Reaching out to others, Telling one's story
5 ACCEPTANCE - Exploring options, new plan in place, moving on
You may ask what grief? We are grieving the loss of an old lifestyle and the fact that even when the restrictions are over, we will never completely return to where we were over a month ago.
At present we are grieving the loss of freedom of movement, social interaction like physical connection, connections with friends, Concerts, public gatherings, etc. Mentally a lot of people are hanging onto the picture of this and are suffering and struggling to let go of “what should be, the way it was”. They are not able to be in the presence and do what needs to be done to see down the line into the future, they fully believe that it will all go back to how it was. But this can never be, and we will be impacted in unknown ways for e.g. how we socially interact, economically regarding money and how we share vital resources of food and other items, how we conduct business and trade. You will find that pre COVID19 the world was getting very global regarding economics but after this, we will most probably find that we will be more focused on being localized for the resources. International travel will take some time to recover etc.
We need to get used to being uncertain, accepting that our new normal will be the unknown. This can be very scary for a lot of people who are still in the grief stages of denial, anger, and depression. These emotions can also be triggering similar unresolved emotions from the past which also compounds how you are feeling.
With the restrictions and isolation, many are finding that they have to look inwards to find resources to cope as their external mechanisms are no longer available, this can be scary and so they resort to binge-watching tv channels, drinking, emotional eating, etc, but it does not have to be this way you do not have to feel so alone. Coaching and Hypnosis are great tools to help you through this journey. Hypnosis can help with anxiety, fear, depression, and coaching can assist with those as well and with moving out of the grief cycle to Acceptance and with new resources to moving forward.
