I’m not always at my best - but I try my best, everyday, to be better than I was before, to always be progressing. Whenever I feel like a take a step back, I always try to remember how far I have come, from the very beginning. And that “step back” I feel like I’ve taken, is minuscule in the grand scheme of things. Feeling grateful today 🙏🏽

Back bends and heart openers can be quite confronting for a lot of practitioners. It can be a really vulnerable position to have your heart open to the world, both figuratively and physically, and to test the limitations of the spine. But I like to think it’s worthwhile in the end.

“The open heart sees, feels and absorbs the beauty of the world.” Sonia Choquette.

“The spine is the tree of life. Respect it.” Martha Graham.

Being flexible is cool and all, but what’s flexibility without strength? You hear people saying, “I’m not flexible enough to do yoga” all the time, but what if you’re almost too flexible? I’ve always been naturally flexy so I’ve never had too much trouble getting into asanas - but staying in them is another story! My knees and elbows tend to overextend which means I miss out on developing strength around those joints. Revolved pyramid pose is a nightmare for me because of this.

In the past year I’ve been training at the gym and have always believed it’s important to balance strength with flexibility and now I know how important it is to balance flexibility with strength. I’m trying really hard to pull back on my flexibility so that I can develop more strength in my asanas instead of just dumping into my joints - and I hope to encourage other flexy yogis (or any yogi, really) to do the the same!

The night 17 spirits lit their inner flames and began their teacher training journey. I will be forever grateful to - to and the entire group of trainees for their guidance, acceptance, and for sharing this life changing experience with me. I carry your spirits with me as I embark on the next part of my journey! Namaste 🙏

Yoga has helped me in so many ways - physically, mentally and spiritually. It is my greatest wish that I get to nurture these same gifts in others, through yoga.
