Hang up the bunting because I'm done with this bun ting!

I love a good learning experience in the kitchen. I'm pretty proud of my first ever batch of hot cross buns. They taste fantastic.

I'm glad I read the reviews of the recipe I was using though as I totally agree that the extra salt and sugar I added were needed. I don't mind the size of them either and the recipe warned that they're smaller than average. I followed my instinct when it came to the batter for the cross and again I was right to add the extra water. Next time I'll find a way to fill them after they're baked (I'm thinking along the lines of a doughnut technique) as some of them leaked in the oven and that was pretty ugly. Also, the texture needs work, I'm after lighter fluffier buns... Who isn't though?! Haha!

This is my 'NOT Nigella's NOT Caesar Salad' - Same concept but with what I had in the fridge instead. Sardines fried up a treat and went all crispy on top of the griddled lettuce, delicious with the fried egg, saffron oil and then sides of avo and natural yogurt because they were a little bit of what I fancied. She was laughed at when this appeared on but wrongly so in my opinion. Simple, easy, nutritious and delicious!

Another weekend is drawing to a close and it was another well spent with great friends and Mr. S. Saturday morning at the Cake Expo and we're still munching our way through the goodies. Saturday arvo was an impromptu cooking session with my Buzz, she made fresh pasta for the first time and it was a huge success. We also honoured her now slightly stale but beautiful homemade hot cross buns by turning them into a 'bread' and butter pudding with caramelised white chocolate and our own creme anglaise. Sunday has been about stretching our legs along the Yarra River Trail, making the most of every last ray of summer, and branching north side. Now we have a couple of curries on the go, the last bottle of wine of the weekend and the late afternoon light. Right now we're raising our glasses to 'the blueberries', gorgeous twin boys who arrived early this morning to the most incredible parents Dan & Katie. Cheers to simple pleasures and the things that really matter in life. ❤️
