If your horse is rubbing their tail out… this is something you need to look at 👀

One of the most common (and often overlooked) causes of tail rubbing is dry, scaly skin under the dock.

When the skin becomes dry and irritated, it creates that constant itch → leading to rubbing, hair loss, and sometimes even broken skin.

In this clip, you can actually see the build up of dead, flaky skin and how rehydrating the area helps lift and remove it gently.

By restoring moisture back into the skin:
• You reduce irritation
• Help loosen dead skin build-up
• Support healthy skin repair
• And ultimately… stop the urge to rub

Taking care of the skin underneath the tail is just as important as the coat you see ✨

The horse world is built by women.

Some in the spotlight.
Many quietly behind the scenes.

The ones asking better questions, learning more about the animals in front of them, and showing up every day because they care deeply about doing right by their horses.

Today is a reminder of just how many incredible women shape this industry, often without recognition, but never without impact.

Happy International Women’s Day to the women caring for horses everywhere.

From Tradition to Tomorrow:
Rethinking Modern Horse Care

Horsemanship has never been about shortcuts.

For generations, caring for horses was built on observation, rhythm, and respect. Feeding. Grooming. Turnout. Training. Done consistently — because it worked.

Those foundations still matter.
But our understanding of the horse has evolved.

As equine industries modernised, many products shifted toward synthetic additives and quick chemical solutions. Often, they delivered fast, visible results — shinier coats, calmer behaviour, rapid fixes.

But over time, questions emerged.

Some horses became reactive.
Some improved in one area while struggling in another.
Some products addressed symptoms — without supporting the whole system.

Solving a short-term problem doesn’t always mean supporting long-term health.

Today, science is inviting us to look closer.

Recent research is increasingly examining equine nutraceuticals (plant- or food-derived supplements intended to support health beyond basic nutrition). Reviews published in peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition and Journal of Equine Veterinary Science note that while supplements are widely used, evidence quality varies — reinforcing the importance of thoughtful formulation, ingredient integrity, and transparency.

There is also growing interest in plant bioactives — botanical compounds that demonstrate antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties when used appropriately.

What this tells us is simple:

What we put into — and onto — our horses matters.

Modern horse care isn’t just about the feed bin.
Skin. Coat. Hooves. Digestion. Nervous system. They’re all connected.

Products that touch the skin should be as carefully considered as those that enter the body.

If you’re rethinking your horse’s routine, here are a few guiding principles:

• Choose plant-based nutrition over heavy synthetics where appropriate
• Prioritise small-batch production and ingredient integrity
• Look for transparency in sourcing and testing
• Ask who the products are tested on

At Equidae Botanicals, every formula is trialled on our own horses before release. Not as a marketing exercise — but as a responsibility.

Progress doesn’t mean abandoning tradition.
It means refining it.

Blending time-honoured horsemanship with modern plant science allows us to support horses not just for performance or appearance — but for long, comfortable, resilient lives.

Curiosity is where better care begins.
Thoughtful choices are how it continues.
