Why We Pause The Meaning of 11 November
At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the guns finally fell silent.
After four years of bloodshed, World War I ended.
More than 60,000 Australians were killed.
Every year since, our country has stopped — just for one minute to remember them.
Over time, that silence came to mean more than just the First World War.
It became a moment to honour every Australian who has served, fought, or fallen in any conflict.
Remembrance Day isn’t about glorifying war.
It’s about remembering peace and the price that was paid for it.
At 11 am, pause. Remember. Honour.
Lest we forget.
