Of course you’re going to be defensive about something if you believe it’s not true.

That’s why the principles I teach are so important.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The first principle I teach is this -
Your shadow exists
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Meaning: there are aspects of your psyche and personality that are unconscious to you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is critical, because once you accept that there are parts of yourself you cannot see, you will outgrow the immature tendency to defend against the criticism and feedback of those you are in relationship with.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
An empowered, mature relationship begins where defensiveness ends. And defensiveness ends with the humility to assume incomplete self-perception.

When something goes “wrong”, you’ll notice that your attention often moves outward - to the other person, the situation, their words, their actions.

Then you make it mean something - about you, the world and other people.

Left unexamined, this story will solidify into a belief that will shape your behaviour and ultimately, your life. This is far more destructive than the event itself, which passed a long time ago.

The unexamined meaning you assigned to events as an upset young person, is the cause of most of the patterns you’re still looping in.
