Welcome back for another exciting year at Arcadia Holistic Learning.

As we begin this year, I thought it might be time for a little reintroduction.

My name is Sarah, and together with my amazing herd, we work to help young people approach learning in a new way...whether that be learning about ourselves, others or the world around us.

I couldn't do this work without the support of Beans, Eden and Toby.

Beans, a Thorougbred, is usually the first to greet you at the gate and is the leader of our little herd.

Eden, a Friesan X, is a quiet and calm old boy (he'll be 35 this year!) who is always good when you need to reset and reregulate.

Toby, a mini X Shetland, is the youngest and newest of our herd, and while he takes some time to get to know new people, he really appreciates those who are patient with him.

CHRISTMAS CLOSURE

As 2025 comes to an end, the herd will be taking a break from 20 December 2025 to 12 January 2026.

Nothing like the warmth of winter sunshine on a cloudless day, while grazing on beautiful green grass.
What a beautiful opportunity to stop, reflect and enjoy just being in the moment.

Nothing like a very crisp morning to clear your mind and bring you into the present moment. It might be freezing, but it was also beautiful!

SESSION SNEAK PEAK

Checking in at the start of a session is really important because it not only provides an opportunity for self-reflection, but it allows me an opportunity to gauge how a person is feeling and therefore what activities might suit them best.

However, sometimes using words to describe our own emotions can be hard, so this is another way our horses can help us. Using the beautiful cards from we can identify how we’re feeling based on the cards that resonate most with us.

In this session, my client chose Friendly, Free and Kind. What a beautiful place to be for the start of a session!

A wonderful day yesterday presenting at the ADHD Conference in Perth.

It was exciting to speak with so many families, teachers and professionals committed to supporting young people with ADHD.

TODAY’S CLASSROOM

It’s a wet and wintery day in Perth today, so we’re rugging up and moving our learning into the horse shelter. While we might not be as up close with the horses today, we can still benefit from their presence and the beautiful sounds and smells of the bush in winter.

What a beautiful spot to sit and work today!

While equine-assisted learning is a big part of what we do at Arcadia Holistic Learning, our broader goal is to provide learning environments where everyone can thrive, especially those who are neurodivergent and so can find traditional learning environments challenging.

In that vein, today I’m working on my presentation for the upcoming WA ADHD Conference in Perth, hosted by .

I’m going to be speaking about the transition from primary to secondary school, and how to support young people with ADHD to have the best transition possible.

So looking forward to sharing and listening to the other fantastic speakers on the day.

☀️Good Morning☀️

The air was beautifully crisp this morning and it feels like Djeran might be coming early to our little patch of the hills.

Watching the sunrise through the trees and listening to the birds call was a welcome moment of stillness to start my day.

I hope you found your own moment of stillness and quiet to begin your Tuesday.

GOOD MORNING
This week we started the first of our morning sessions, which are aimed at regulating our bodies at the start of the day to set us up for the best day ahead.

What a beautiful way to start the day, spending time with the horses before the heat sets in. The light was soft, there was a beautiful cool breeze (no flies!) and the birds were calling.

After a six day long heatwave in Perth this last week, this morning we woke up to a world that was cool and refreshed.

In an English classroom we call this juxtaposition. By placing two things side by side, we’re able to better appreciate the difference between the two.

I certainly appreciated this morning more because of the scorching hot days that preceded it.

If learning by staring a rain drop-covered spider webs sounds like something you or your child would enjoy, please get in touch. Our literacy and English support services are conducted outside a traditional classroom learning environment and are tailored to the individual.
