Do you know how to recognise signs of abuse and neglect?

The NDIS Code of Conduct requires providers and workers to recognise warning signs and respond effectively.

Failing to act on abuse is a serious breach of the Code and can lead to bans and legal action. All reasonable steps must be taken to prevent and respond to violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation of people with disability.

This applies to anyone who provides support of any kind to NDIS participants – including unregistered providers.

✔️ Notice the warning signs
✔️ Follow proper processes and act on concerns
✔️ Remind workers of their obligations
✔️ Offer safe and accessible ways for participants and staff to report issues

Providers can share factual information about NDIS services and refer you to independent advocacy organisations. But they cannot represent you as your advocate.

Separating these roles keeps boundaries clear and your rights protected.

Your provider’s role is to deliver safe, person-centred supports and services.

An independent advocate’s role is to represent you – and only you – without conflict or competing interests.
