Happy 149 to the iconic May Gibbs, English author who adopted Australia as her home.

As a child, she immigrated from England to WA with her family and fell in love with the Australian Bush. How could she not? After a few stints in London at art school she moved to Sydney and lived in Neutral Bay ( near where I once lived). Her parents bought a beautiful Sydney Harbour facing block of bush land and ( the name of her house) was her home till she died. Because she loved children...she donated her house and funds to the Cerebal Palsy Alliance and Northcott Disability Services.

Through her legacy she has helped so many children.

Despite being female... May Gibbs had an incredibly successful career as a writer and cartoonist. Her most famous work is the Gumnut Babies. Sadly because she was female, she was paid 1/3 to 1/4 the $$$ payments a man would have received. But she continued to create and brought so much joy to generations of children.

She loved the Australian bush, and with her husband and Scottish Terriers ( who were her children), she travelled to the often on vacation...to spend time in nature.

Today...in honour of her birthday...Scotty dogs and their owners...and Westies got into Nutcote for free. Which gave me a great chance to catch up with friends ( hoo-man and furries) including

Ps. Can you tell I'm a fan? She's one of my favourite authors and I'm in awe of the great work she achieved.

Flashback photo. Somewhere in the mid west of the States with new friends..all of us from different countries.

As I looked through old albums yesterday, I remembered that year.

I was 18 and it was the year I travelled and lived overseas ( for the first time), without family and friends. It wasn't easy. But it was the best challenge i could have chosen..as an 18 yr old. I was forever changed. I learnt that challenges and change don't break me...they actually help make me. They help me learn. They help me grow.

Ocean or mountains? I can't choose btw them...because I genuinely love both. Nature is my church. It helps me ground, recharge, reflect, and opens me up to more inspiration for writing.

So in 2026 I'm going to manifest more time in nature including time near flowing water.

All traditional cultures understood the healing power of nature...including time spent with animals. Modern research is only just catching up.

Suggest you too 😉 incorporate more nature into your schedule this year. Because it's so good for the heart...as well as your mental and physical health.

2025 has been a big year. Sadly quite a few deaths at the start, but thankfully lots of new beginnings...including a wonderful wedding for PJ amongst the trees in Canberra. Lots of time spent in nature. Quality catch ups with my 87 year old mum, fun times with family...old friends...and new friends. A book launch for What if...? with And a new book ( Wilson says What if...?) with heart warming illustrations by out now. Lots to be grateful for. These are only a few of my favourites.

I'm also grateful that I live in a beautiful natural location in the . And I'm grateful I'm safe. Especially as there is a bush fire close by ( just beyond the cliffs in the last photo). RFS helicopters have been flying past for the last 3 hrs carrying water to drop on it. I hope they get it under control soon. I trust they will.

2026 is almost here. I'm sure there will be moments that test you.

But as we move through it...I encourage you to focus on what you're grateful for...to stay open to possibilities...and embrace new opportunities.

Its been another big year. And challenges have been continuous. Theres been joy, but also sadness for many...including unexpected endings. So as we get closer to the end of 2025, it's important to 🐌 down and look for ways to reconnect to self. For me...that means more time in nature.

It's also important to remember that we're all tired.

So... look for ways to share kindness. Kindness with strangers. Kindness with the people we love...and those who trigger us.

This morning in a podcast with Erin from I was asked: ' Why do you write?...What inspired you to be an author?'

My answer ( depending on whom I talk to) is either the long author version or the short sharp. 😅 But in essence, I write to share 💡 ideas. I write to share wisdom. I write to lift people up. And I hope by putting my words and thoughts out there..I'll help others. Or at the very least, expand their perspective.

I'm pretty sure many authors feel the same. They write to share ideas...and to inspire others.

So if you are still unsure what to get someone for Christmas 🎄...buy a book. ( Preferably by an Aussie author). Because

Life comes with many challenges. My first challenge was being born into a large family. I love being part of a big family, but it wasn't always easy. 🙃 There are ups and downs, just like in any family. invited me to talk about my experiences on Wednesday night.

I took my mum as my plus one, because she's a star...and obviously she brought me into the world. It was a fun experience, a tad daunting with so many cameras on me, but a good challenge at the same time.

My parents brought me up to find a way...to help. So today I took my pocket money off the the Christmas fund-raiser in the at the

The money spent today will help support their important work with injured wombats, joey orphans, and mange management. Yay!

The team are doing great things here...helping protect our incredibly precious and unique wildlife.

Today was my small way of helping.

I hope you find a local wildlife protection group to support in your local area. Because as temperatures rise and more bushland is cleared, our beautiful animals are going to need more support.

PS. Everyone needs a wombat for Christmas 🎄 💕 So heads up family...you're probably going to get one!

Catch up today with Federal MP, Susan Templeton. She is a champion of both visual and performance arts. And she lives in the Blue Mountains.

We discussed books, publishing ( mentioned you and ), wombats, mental health, and in kids. We also briefly discussed the shut-down of social media for under 16s. It's going to be interesting...as we're the world s first govt to take on big tech.

A good chat and I'm looking forward to having her at my official Wilson launch. There will be cake...probably shaped as a wombat.

PS. Not sure what I was laughing about ( second photo) 🤣 but must have been funny.

A wonderful day at the Community Hub. Met so many lovely people, including fellow authors and creatives and kind people.

Thankyou especially to all of the wonderful people who bought my books. I believe when we help one...we help many. Use my ideas to go BIG...

Massive hugs in particular to the under 12s I met and talked to today. I hope my books remind you how amazing you are...how special you are ( even if people tell you youre weird)...and to never to give up on your dreams.
