Shirley Valentine by W***y Russell

Why do we get all this life if we don't ever use it?

Shirley Bradshaw often finds herself alone and talking to the wall in her kitchen. But something's about to change! While preparing her husband's evening meal of egg and chips, she wonders if she has the courage to escape her dull married life. Can she follow her dreams and take an unexpected and exciting trip to Greece in search of her fearless former self, Shirley Valentine? Maybe there she will fulfill her dream of ‘sitting by the sea, drinking wine in a country where the grape is grown’.

W***y Russell's comic monologue, Shirley Valentine, opened at Liverpool's Everyman Theatre in 1986 to rave reviews and awards and was later made into an Oscar nominated film and now Bare Productions is proud to present this engaging one-woman comedy at the REX!

Songs from the Barrier Line I Charlotte Le Lievre

Charlotte Le Lievre debuts her show ‘Songs from the Barrier Line’ – a collection of stories and songs she has crafted about Broken Hill, the Darling River (Baaka) and the dusty outback of Far West NSW. Through interweaving historical narratives and personal reflections, Charlotte will take you on a musical Odyssey through the place that stole her heart.

Charlotte Le Lievre is an alt-country singer and songwriter. Born in Newcastle, Charlotte is now based between Melbourne (Naarm) and the Far Western NSW mining town of Broken Hill. She is a captivating story teller, who draws on historical events and profound personal experiences to weave narratives about life out West. Her style is reminiscent of the old-time country troubadours but embodies a uniquely female perspective. Her songs are grounded in philosophy, poetry and deep connection to the dusty Western plains. She will make you smell the red gum leaves that rest on the dry creek bed floor.
