How can you tell if you're working with an AMTA-registered music therapist?
✔️ Look out for the registered music therapist logo supplied by AMTA - a sure sign!
✔️ Ask for their AMTA registration number, or check that it's on your invoice.
✔️ Get in touch with the Australian Music Therapy Association.

It's our mission to achieve equitable access to safe and effective music therapy services provided by registered music therapists. We work to ensure that anyone who says they provide music therapy is actually a registered music therapist with:
✔️ the proper qualifications, skills and experience to
✔️ competently and safely use music as a therapy tool and
✔️ meet best practice standards for allied health practitioners
✔️ as set out by National Alliance of Self Regulating Health Professions.

AMTA invites you to learn more about the regulatory standards met by registered music therapists: https://www.austmta.org.au/about/about-amta/regulatory-standards/

What happens when music meets therapy? When a registered music therapist is involved, life changes can happen. This World Music Therapy Week, tune in for stories about the impact of music therapy. If you're just learning about music therapy, here's a warm-up:

🎶 Music therapy is evidence-based, and its body of research continues to grow.

🎹 It's provided by allied health professionals who are uniquely qualified to use music as a therapeutic intervention.

🎤 It's regulated by the Australian Music Therapy Association, a member of Allied Health Professions Australia and National Alliance of Self Regulating Health Professions

🎸People of all ages, abilities and backgrounds benefit from music therapy.

🥁 Music therapy is an NDIS-funded support and part of several government-funded programs.

🎺 You'll find registered music therapists in hospitals, clinics, schools, prisons, community centres and working with other allied health professionals like speech pathologists, occupationsl therapists, physiotherapists and more.

This World Music Therapy Week, we're celebrating meaningful moments in music therapy - like this one, between music therapy participants Daniella and her son Lucas, who is diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Since Lucas began sessions with his registered music therapist, Daniella has seen improvements in his ability to engage in school, group sport and social gatherings.

"Music therapy has considerably improved Lucas’ quality of life and access to his community," his mum says. "It has provided him with a new way to communicate with his world, which has significantly reduced his self-harming behaviours.

"Each music therapy session provides Lucas with an uplifting and confidence-boosting experience, and a safe outlet to express his deeply felt emotions. Being able to express how he feels through music has given him the essential skill of self-regulation, and a renewed sense of meaning and purpose in life."

Thank you, Lucas and Daniella, for sharing this moment with our music therapy community.

From 10 to 15 April each year, World Music Therapy Week celebrates the power of music in healing and connection. In Australia, we choose to spend the week shining a spotlight on registered music therapists. 📣 NDIS UPDATE 📣

The Independent Review into music therapy in the NDIS was due to release the findings report today.

This has now been extended until the 17th April to give Dr Duckett more time to assess the more than 600 submissions received.

It is important to note NDIS participants can continue to access music and art therapy through their current arrangements during the review process.

Furthermore, NDIS providers may continue claiming at current pricing levels as listed in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements.

Any proposed changes will not come into operation until after the review is completed and the relevant findings are considered.
