We are deeply saddened to inform patients and our community of the sudden and unexpected passing of Dr Chris Chard. His dedication to his patients and profession left a lasting impact, and he will be profoundly missed by the community he served with such care and compassion. His team at Sanctuary will remember him not only as a skilled and committed doctor, but as a cherished friend. Our thoughts are with his family.

This year as Easter and ANZAC Day are so close we have decided to take the opportunity to rest our hard working team. The practice will be closed from Friday 18 April and re-open on Monday 28 April. This will give our team a chance to re-energise, spend time with their loved ones, and have a well earned rest.

We hope that everyone in our community has a wonderful Easter. And that all of us take the time to remember the sacrifice made by the ANZACs and honour their memory.

The management at Sanctuary Medical Practice Fletcher has recently been considering the increase in respiratory viruses like Influenza, RSV, Whooping Cough, and Covid. In particular, consideration has been for those people that are at high risk of complications including pneumonia and hospitalisation.

Our practice has around 2000 patients that would be considered at high risk if they contract a virus like Influenza. It should also be noted that anyone could experience complications from viruses 🦠 like influenza - even very healthy people.

Some of the people with a higher risk of complications work for us - we have some clinical and non-clinical health care workers and/or their family members that could experience serious health complications if they were infected. We need to make their workplace as safe as possible during this season.

It is for this reason that we have returned mask 😷 wearing to our practice and increased Telehealth. We see this as an act of safety, caring, and kindness to protect the people that visit our practice and for those that work there.

We ask everyone that comes to wear a mask, wash hands as required, and sanitise. And if you have respiratory symptoms please let admin know when you are making an appointment or arriving at the practice.

We are very grateful to all the wonderful patients that have been wearing masks 😷.
And have also shown understanding and support for our decision.

This week we have celebrated and thanked our Nurses and Medical Receptionists 👏⭐️ on International Nurses Day and International Medical Receptionist Day. Everyday they care and help people in our community as frontline health care workers.

Nurse Jo has shown commitment to our community and has been with us for 10 years now! Next year Jo will be training our first new graduate nurse! We are very excited to add the education of the next generation of nurses to our current program of training future doctors. It is our hope that we will be able to train many doctors and nurses to enter our industry with a heart for health care and community.

And then there is the work of our Medical Receptionist. This is a huge job, they will answer on average around 800 calls in a week. Most of these calls are complex and from people in our community needing medical care. Their ability to triage and understand a wide range of needs is to be admired. As most people know the health care system is getting more and more complicated and it is our medical receptionist that are often helping our community to access medical services and to understand how it all works.

Again, thank you to our nurses and medical receptionists. You are appreciated and admired ⭐️👏💛

We will be closed on the afternoon of Wednesday 01 May 2024 from 12.30pm. The entire team, both clinical and non-clinical, will be involved in an Annual Education and Planning Day.

While everyone in our practice regularly participates in education and professional development as individuals, this team based training is a very important and precious time for our practice as we work to consolidate knowledge, develop quality improvements, and plan for the future. As a team this will give us an opportunity to focus on patient care as we address topics such as continuity of care, standards in healthcare, managing chronic disease in the community, sustainability of general practice, and digital platforms.
