✨ The Thoracic Sling ✨
The thoracic sling is one of the most important regions in your horse’s body. It’s a group of muscles—including the serratus ventralis and pectorals—that literally hold the trunk up between the front legs.
A healthy thoracic sling means better posture, freer movement, improved balance, and reduced strain through the forelimbs and back.
When the thoracic sling isn’t functioning well, you might notice:
🐴 A “downhill” appearance or dropping through the chest
🐴 Toe-dragging or shortened front stride
🐴 Difficulty lifting through the wither
🐴 Unbalanced canter transitions
🐴 Hollowing the back or bracing through the neck
🐴 Leaning on the forehand
🐴 Saddles slipping forward
🐴 Struggling with lateral work or tight turns
🐴 General stiffness or reluctance to go forward
🐴 Girthiness
Supporting the thoracic sling through osteopathic treatment, correct groundwork, stretching and postural exercises can help your horse move more comfortably and freely.
