Recently, Tibii was offered a contract valued at nearly $2 million to deliver support services. After careful consideration and multiple discussions involving the leadership team, including Lisa, George, Gustavo, and CEO Pouya Farbod, a collective decision was made to decline the opportunity.
Not because Tibii lacked the capability to manage the complexity. And not because the service delivery managers or support workers were unprepared — in fact, quite the opposite. Many across the disability sector believed Tibii was the only organisation with the skills and experience to take this on.
The decision was made because a detailed analysis showed the potential impact on support workers and the service delivery team could compromise their wellbeing — something that fundamentally conflicts with Tibii’s values.
As Pouya explains, this is what a human rights approach looks like in practice.
It means stepping into each other’s shoes, understanding the lived experience of those around us, and refusing to place anyone in a situation where their rights, dignity, or safety may be compromised.
That moment of decision truly mattered. And it resulted in a moment of integrity — one the entire organisation can stand behind with pride.
