Many behaviours we see in children are not about “not trying.” Children often manage several demands at once: sensory input, social expectations, uncertainty, time, and performance pressure. When these stack together, the activity requires more effort.

Reducing even one demand can make the activity easier to manage!

When your child is upset, they are not ready to learn. In that moment, they need your calm. To support them, you can try: talking less, slowing your voice, staying close. Once they are calm, their brain comes back online, and that's when learning happens!

Why do OTs use games in therapy?

Because they help children practise skills in a safe, supported way. Skills like: waiting, coping with change, and managing big feelings. This is how learning transfers to everyday life!
