Mama's Medicine

Mama's Medicine I am a Certified Placenta Encapsulation Specialist based in Lennox Head, NSW. Enabling new Mama’s to experience the many benefits of their baby’s placenta.

Use the placenta to help with your postpartum recovery. Your own placenta, made into capsules, is incredibly nutritious and beneficial to you. Women who take their placenta capsules tend to have better postpartum experiences, avoid the baby blues, have an increase in energy, and an increase in milk production. Traditional Chinese Medicine has used placenta for centuries to treat issues such as fatigue and insufficient lactation, and scientific studies support the use of placenta for these conditions. Using the placenta for your postpartum recovery is a very easy and natural way to help you feel better after the birth.

I feel so passionately about this ~ Optimal cord clamping ~ waiting until the umbilical cord stops pulsating before clamping they cord ~ baby receives nutrient rich umbilical cord blood which supplies extra iron, oxygen and stem cells ~ waiting 1 minute allows your baby to receive about 80ml of blood, after 3 minutes it increases to 100ml ~ increases brain oxygenation for baby ~ improves iron levels for the first year, strengthening their immune system for life! Put baby on your chest and wait as long as you can before cutting the cord. Hours or even days 😊 your baby will thrive as nature intended 🙏🏽

The benefits of placenta encapsulation ✨

This is what the latest research says:

“Depressive disorders are the most common postpartum psychiatric manifestation, though this is not to be mistaken for the “baby blues” or postpartum depression (PPD) 41.

The acute withdrawal of the significantly increased amounts of circulating (neuro)hormones around the time of parturition and the sudden cessation of hormone synthesis by the placenta is suggested as a cause for the emotional imbalance43 .

As small quantities of progesterone are detectable in both raw and dried placenta, ingestion could likewise exert an effect on the mental health of the mother. Hence, the indication for puerperal application of oneʼs own placenta as a hormonal substitute may be derived in the case of prior postpartum depression or pronounced premenstrual syndrome with marked mood swings.

Placental tissue is a source of natural hormones, trace elements and essential amino acids – the ingestion of raw or dehydrated placenta could influence postpartum convalescence, lactation, mood and recovery.”- Johnson et al. 2018

I believe this is currently the best (non-pharmacological) remedy we can offer mums after birth 💫

• Burying the placenta [or just the umbilical cord if you are having it made into capsules] ~ is a very common tradition throughout most cultures. The parents choose a place that has a special meaning, often ancestral land or at home. Doing this is said to root the child to the earth, and to their identity. It is believed that the person will not become individualistic or selfish but a part of the community, of nature and of the cosmos. Not to mention returning its sacred nutrients to Mother Earth. What a beautiful symbology 🍂🌼🌺 .
Most of my clients choose to have their umbilical cord retuned fresh [in a ziplock bag which is kept in the freezer until you are ready to bury it and plant a special plant or tree on top ] OR the dehydrated option which you can ofcourse bury too or some mamas get crafty & weave into a dream catcher adding feathers & beads or whatever the heart desires 💛
