They host interactive terrarium building workshops for Beginners, Kids and Birthday Parties! Foliage Therapy welcome custom orders (eg. birthday surprise, family forever and memorial keepsake). I was hesitant to add this post but I think it’s valuable to show all sides of the terrarium making process including the good, the bad and the ugly.

In a recent bag of potting mix there were unfortunately, traces of fungus gnat eggs that I didn’t notice until they hatched and started flying around the terrarium.

It’s going to be okay as I have included some tips and tricks to help get rid of these pesky gnats.

Step 1: Remove the terrarium lid and give it a clean to wipe away the gnats trapped onto the glass.

Step 2: Leave the lid off for 1-2 weeks as this allows the gnats to escape from the terrarium.

Step 3: Replace the lid and feel a sense of pride and confidence that you have tackled this plant issue like a pro!

Step 4: If you notice gnats re-appear then repeat steps 1-3 again.

This concludes my About Me series.

I am a one-person entrepreneur behind Foliage Therapy and take pride in converting my kitchen bench into a terrarium-making land when my kids are in bed.

I am grateful to local businesses such as Poppy Cafe & Panty and The Art of Nature Floral Studio for giving me the opportunity to stock my terrariums in their shop to build connections with customers.

I have also started to make an appearance at Heidi Market where I enjoy meeting and having a dialogue with customers and Makers alike.

Happiest birthday to you. The terrarium is lovingly prepared in a green gift box with black tissue paper for that wow factor! Plus, care instructions (not that you really need it because the terrarium essentially takes care of itself).

When I enter the store, I cannot help but feel the weight of chaos, tension and worries disappear. It is replaced by calmness, purity and serenity as I breath in the incense and feel that I can cope again.

It’s worth a visit and you can compliment your terrarium with a crystal for their healing properties or well-meaning intent for the recipient.

For example, the use of Amethyst can help reduce anxiety or Rose Quartz to heal the heart. Whatever you decide there’s a crystal to project what you put into the universe and for it to happen!

It is natural for a closed terrarium to build up on condensation to maintain a humid environment for the plants. Don’t forget to tilt the terrarium lid like I have done in this photo or remove it completely overnight to enable fresh air flow and circulation. This practice fosters a healthy and thriving terrarium!

I couldn’t ask for a more beautiful day to host a stall at Heide Market for the first time! I enjoyed meeting you and having a dialogue about special memories of your Grandmother’s vintage terrarium to an Aunty who had a terrarium coffee table! How cool is that? I was moved by a child who spent his birthday money to buy a terrarium as well as a “making someone’s day” by making an assumption! Opps. I was surrounded by amazing and talented Makers who were both friendly and supportive willing to share resources. A big thank you to my husband, kids and parents for your unconditional love and support encouraging me to follow my creative green pursuits.

Paying attention to customers feedback is important which is why I’d like to present Foliage Therapy’s Autumn Collection!

It’s been suggested to me on more than one occasion to design a natural appealing foundation which is what I’ve done here.

I used natural sand, white gravel, horticulture charcoal and sphagnum moss topped with hazelnut eclair oops I mean gravel to finish the look!

A “dalek” of terrariums are ready for action at Heide Market this Saturday 9th from 10-3pm at 7 Templestowe Road, Bulleen Victoria 3105.

Part 3 from my About Me series

I started Foliage Therapy to indulge in my interests of playing with plants but also to tap into my creative nature and motivation to collaborate with other Melbourne Makers to create artistic terrariums that are affordable.

I believe in communicating with customers and take a genuine interest in their feedback to help me grow, both personally and professionally, and to address their unique needs.

This concept is evident in Foliage Therapy’s new online shop where it engages customers to custom order their terrarium, by choosing the glassware, substrate, foliage and decorations to personalise it however they choose.

The online shop is still in a seed raising tray and will be ready for potting shortly.

Part 2 from my About Me series…. My first terrarium was made out of a vintage Demijohn bottle that my neighbor was throwing out. I found the experience of building a miniature garden in glassware to be calming and grounding. I was hooked- like a gardener to compost.

I discovered that closed terrariums serve as a self-sustaining ecosystem meaning that the plants water themselves, making them easy to care for. Terrariums are the perfect companion decor for those who lead a busy lifestyle or are serial plant killers but who have an appreciation for greenery in their home or office. Plus, they look peachy as a beautiful centerpiece.

I will be hosting a stall for Foliage Therapy at Heide Market on Saturday 9th of April 2022 to celebrate the start of the school holidays.
I am eager to meet you for a yarn, we can talk plants and you can also purchase a terrarium for yourself or as a gift for someone special. Easter is around the corner so a "non-calorie" terrarium present is going be a winner all round.
There will be an array of glass beauties to choose from to match every style and budget.

I was approached by Jagga LH who placed a custom order terrarium to celebrate her friend’s 40th Birthday. She wanted to personalise the terrarium by featuring her friend’s family consisting of Mum, Dad and her two children. A photo of the family was provided to Isabella who then handmade them out of polymer clay capturing all the fine details. The results speak for themselves by the review provided.
