In clinic we have many clients come to us frustrated with not being able to lose weight. They feel like they have done it all…. eat clean, count calories, train 7x days a week and still see no results.

Weight loss is much more than calories in vs calories out.

There are many underlying drivers that can impact weight balance, and this is often not investigated properly.

The most common drivers that we see in clinic include;

Gut dysbiosis (imbalances between beneficial/ pathogenic gut bacteria)
Insulin resistance
Chronic stress
Hormonal imbalances (oestrogen excess and/ or low progesterone)
Thyroid conditions
Emotional food behaviours

As clinical nutritionist our primary focus is to investigate the complexities of these issues.

This is why we have created Pure Health’s Holistic Weight Loss program.

In this program we look into the 6 key underlying drivers that may be affecting your ability to shift weight, while using blood pathology and functional testing to provide individualised treatment protocols.

Plant-based milks are a great alternative for those who suffer from allergies and intolerances.

However, they are so often filled with additives, sweeteners, preservatives and vegetable oils that can irritate our gut and skin.

We have selected some of the milk alternatives that we love and are free from all the nasty ingredients.

Swipe to the last slide for our homemade almond milk recipe, it's not only tasty but super easy to make!

Approximately 1 in 3 women are unable to absorb folic acid properly, which means it is important to look for a prenatal that contains active folate.

Some of the most popular prenatal's on the market don't contain active folate or choline which is essential for the baby's cell membranes and brain development.

Above are some prenatal supplements that we love however, always consult your Nutritionist or healthcare professional before commencing any prenatal supplement.

In clinic, we often have clients coming to see us with various digestive issues such as bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, gas, fatigue, food intolerances, and many more. Without appropriate testing, the treatment for these symptoms can vary.

An amazing test we often use in clinic to address digestive concerns is stool testing which is referred to as Complete Microbiome Mapping (CMM).

A CMM provides detailed insight into whats going on with a clients gut microbiome & enables us as practitioners to create detailed & personalised treatment plans that target the exact issue that's occurring.

If you're struggling with digestive issues, you don't have to just put up with these symptoms. It's SO important to address the underlying root cause so you can enjoy your life without worrying day to day about how your gut is going to react.

Please reach out to us & book in an initial consult with one of our qualified Clinical Nutritionists to get to the root cause of your symptoms!

Experiencing post-partum hairloss? 👱🏼‍♀️

You're not alone. Many new mums experience hairloss post-birth largely due to the major hormonal changes in their body, particularly if they're breastfeeding.

Although it can be a normality in the postpartum journey, it can also signal nutrient deficiencies or thyroid dysfunction. This is why eating a nutrient-rich diet, and getting you blood checked, is highly recommended.

Some incredible nutrients to support post-partum hairloss are:
✨Protein
✨ Zinc
✨Omega-3's
✨Iron
✨Vitamin E
✨ B Vitamins

A guide to understanding: low iron 🖤 | part 2

Low Iron is a very common complaint we see in the clinic, particularly from women. Women who are feeling low in energy or fatigued, will often find their iron levels are not optimal.

While the underlying cause is individualised and depends on the diet, lifestyle and other defining characteristics of a person - there are some patterns we see in clinic.

🖤Inadequate Intake
Women aged 19-50 are required to consume 18mg of iron per day. Unfortunately, many of us struggle to meet this daily requirement and as a result develop iron deficiency anemia.

🖤Poor Absorption
It doesn't matter how much iron you consume, if you're not absorbing it. Poor absorption is extremely common and is often due to compromised gut health from IBS, SIBO, leaky gut, stress, low stomach acid, and coeliac disease. As Iron is absorbed in the small intestine, any disorders affecting the small intestine will affect how well you absorb iron. Additionally, when consuming iron-rich foods many of us forget to avoid consuming coffee, tea, calcium and zinc with iron as these inhibit the absorption.

Having low iron can affect many areas of your health including immunity, brain function, cognition, energy levels, thyroid function, fertility, mood & more. That's where we come in! As Clinical Nutritionists, we can identify the underlying cause and create a personalised treatment plan that will improve your iron levels & create sustained change.

A guide to understanding: low iron 🖤 | part 1

Low Iron is a very common complaint we see in the clinic, particularly from women. Women who are feeling low in energy or fatigued, will often find their iron levels are not optimal.

While the underlying cause is individualised and depends on the diet, lifestyle and other defining characteristics of a person - there are some patterns we see in clinic.

🖤Heavy Menstuation
Women who suffer from heavy periods (a period that lasts longer than 7 days or with blood loss of 80ml) lose substantial amounts of their iron stores during their cycle. This, paired with the fact that Iron is typically under-consumed, leads to a depletion of the iron stores.

🖤Gastrointestinal disorders
Gastrointestinal disorders such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s can lead to a slow, consistent loss of iron in stools due to intestinal bleeding. It's extremely important to address these disorders to improve not only iron absorption, but all nutrient absorption.

Having low iron can affect many areas of your health including immunity, brain function, cognition, energy levels, thyroid function, fertility, mood & more. This is where we come in, as Clinical Nutritionists we're passionate about addressing the root cause of your iron deficiency and creating sustained change.
