Holistic First Aid

Holistic First Aid Helping people learn the skills to help others, friends, family work colleagues, who may be developing a mental health issue or are in a crisis.

I love training & I am is passionate about first aid - mental, physical & emotional. With the philosophy of empowering individuals to help make a difference with their friends, family & colleagues. I've completed a Graduate Diploma in Psychology, and previously completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Sports Studies), a Post Grad in Biomedical Science (Health Promotion) and a Graduate Diploma in Education (Training & Development). Yes I love studying and learning. To date I've has proudly delivered 265 Mental Health First Aid workshops since becoming an accredited instructor in 2009. Last year I became a Mental Health First Aid Instructor Trainer, supporting and mentoring new instructors to facilitate the Mental Health First Aid program. I love this, it is nice to impart some of my wisdom and learnings (including a few mistakes to avoid) to others. Further mental health knowledge is enhanced by current studies in Transactional Analysis (Certificate IV in Transactional Analysis) and previously as a volunteer Lifeline telephone counsellor. Jackie has applied these first aid principles in a variety of settings and seeks to impart practical knowledge to each group. For 30 years I've has been involved in the health area, with training experience in a wide variety of industries including, University lecturing, emergency management, sports medicine, health promotion, road safety and "physical" first aid. This has involved delivering courses to a wide variety of people and organisations, including; local & state government, non-government & not-for profits, frontline managers, executives, mine site workers & trades people, school teachers & students, senior citizens & sporting clubs. This has given me so many wonderful experiences across a broad section of society, I feel very fortunate. Member:

I never wanted to feel helpless again. Why I learnt first aid.

Many years ago I was a young country kid (18 ) who had left home and was now studying in a big city. One day I was in a shopping centre and visited the ladies bathroom. As I was leaving the cubicle to wash my hands I heard another cubical door open, a cry and then a thump. Lying on the ground with her legs poking out the cubicle door was a little old lady who had slipped, hit her head and collapsed. Unbeknownst to be at the time she had fallen on her side (the recovery position), a safe spot for an unconscious person.

Well I didn’t know what to do other than not to leave her. Another woman was leaving the restrooms and I asked her to help me, she looked down at me, turned her head, stepped over the older woman's legs and kept going. I felt quite lost, helpless and uncertain about what to do .

Then another woman walked in, and I said “can you help me?” and she said the most wonderful words, “Don’t worry I know first aid”.

It did work out ok, the little old lady was still breathing, very shallowly, I went to find a security guard who called an ambulance.
