As a Physiotherapist, I spend my days trying to help people understand the connection between their habits and their physical health - how posture affects back pain, or how a sedentary lifestyle impacts muscle function.

But what about the health of our most important tool: our brain, and its ability to focus and learn?

An interesting meta-analysis published in Computers in Human Behavior Reports sheds critical light on this modern dilemma.

After reviewing the evidence, I want to share what this means for you and how you can apply these findings to protect your cognitive well-being.

Discover what a major meta-analysis reveals about smartphone addiction's real impact on learning and cognitive skills. Learn practical, physio-approved str

This is still one of my most favourite types of videos. Being able to go deep on the concepts and theories that define what I see clinically really tickles me in all the right places.

If you're struggling to make sense of your back pain - especially why it may have happened, give this a watch and let me know what you think.

Also, if you come across other podcast episodes or videos you'd like me to react to or discuss, please feel free to let me know!

Really enjoyed putting this together!

I always talk about the little tips, tricks and perspectives that people can implement to help keep their back in good order, so it was fun to demonstrate them during a typical day in my life as a Physio.

Hope its helpful!

Muscle Energy Technique (MET) vs. Joint Mobilisation for Frozen Shoulder: which one should you use?

A 2023 clinical study put two uncommon Physio techniques head-to-head for chronic adhesive capsulitis.

➡️ BOTH techniques (MET and Kaltenborn mobilisation) were equally effective at improving shoulder range of motion.

➡️ BUT, the Muscle Energy Technique (MET) showed statistically superior results for:
✅ Reducing Pain
✅ Improving Daily Function

Why does this matter? It reinforces that in the chronic "frozen" stage, an active, patient-involved approach (MET) can be more powerful than a purely passive one for meaningful outcomes like pain relief and getting back to daily life. It’s not just about moving the joint; it's about how you engage the nervous system.

NEW BLOG POST: Research suggests that strength training may decrease our risk of injury by 66%.

However, while strength training is always recommended, there may be more to consider.

Clinically, I find the mobility restrictions are often at the heart of most injuries I see. The idea is that a handbrake somewhere may ask everything to move differently to go around that restriction, ultimately loading things differently and opening the door for dysfunction over time. More strength is likely just raising a person's tolerance to this dysfunction.

Again, still valuable, of course, but a true reduction in injury risk requires a broader perspective.

Have a read and let me know your thoughts!
