I often get asked if Dry Needling and Acupuncture are the same thing. Often other practitioners will use the term Acupuncture when what they’re really doing is Dry Needling.

So what’s the difference?

Acupuncture typically uses quite a few needles placed along Chinese energy lines, in various places around the body. Effective treatment using acupuncture usually takes repeated appointments over a long period of time.

Dry Needling, on the other hand, needs as little as one or two needles which are placed directly into sore or dysfunctioning muscles. Relief is very fast, most commonly in the first appointment.

To get maximum benefits during your appointment, a combination of Dry Needling and remedial massage is the most effective way to get you back up and moving again.

Did you know that Blue Wren now offers dry needling as either an optional part of remedial massage or as a stand-alone treatment? If the idea of needles scare you, remember that these are extremely fine needles - about the same thickness as a hair. Dry Needling is a useful treatment to help muscles soften. Needles are placed into specific muscles that are sore or tight, providing more immediate relief. Dry Needling and Remedial Massage are the perfect pairing to get you feeling better more quickly.
