Update on Thriving Kids, the good news is that the announcement provides clearer information for families now and into the future.

The Minister for Health and Ageing, Disability and the NDIS Mark Butler MP has announced an overview of Thriving Kids and released the report from the Thriving Kids Advisory Group. National Cabinet has committed $4 billion over 5 years.

The announcement is very high level and lots of the details are being worked out. Thriving Kids will start from 1 October 2026 and will be fully rolled out from 1 January 2028.

The Australian Government will be responsible for national components of the program, including information and program evaluation. State governments will deliver parenting programs and targeted supports.

What the announcement means for:

⭐Children who enter the NDIS prior to 1 January 2028

🔹Children aged 0-8 who are currently enrolled in the NDIS can remain on the NDIS (subject to usual rules).

🔹Between now and 1 January 2028 children aged 0-8 who are identified as having developmental delay or disability can get help through the NDIS (subject to usual rules).

🔹From 1 January 2028 the eligibility rules for the NDIS will change for children aged 0-8, but for children aged 0-8 who are already on the NDIS the current rules will continue to apply.

“Subject to usual rules” means the current rules around NDIS eligibility and reassessment apply.

⭐From 1 January 2028

🔹Access rules for the NDIS for children aged 0-8 will change from 1 January 2028.

🔹Children 0-8+ years old who are identified as having with significant and permanent disability will continue to access the NDIS. This includes young children with developmental delay or autism with high support needs.

Sad news from We Rock Preston as the very wonderful Kiera had her last day with us this week!
Kiera joined us as a volunteer in late 2019 while she was still studying.
She quickly became a permanent and much loved member of our staff and in the last few years has lead our team.
Kiera’s passion and care for our participants and their families and our team of staff has been incredible. She always brings calm to chaos, creativity to problems and is always a kind, intelligent and professional first contact many families have with We Rock.
It’s a special person who provides We Rock families with confidence and trust as they hand over their most precious young people.
We couldn’t be more thankful for her enormous contribution to our business and family and only wish her the very best.
If you’d like to send Kiera a farewell message, please email info@werockthespectrumpreston.com and we can pass it on. ❤️

Increased public transport benefits for carers in Victoria.

The Premier's Office announced today that starting this Sunday morning (Nov 30, 2025), carers in Victoria will be entitled to FREE weekend public transport to EVERYWHERE across the state. Whether you catch a train, tram or bus, or all three, travel will be FREE on weekends, not just in 2 neighbouring zones, but to everywhere in Victoria, and not just until February 1, 2026, but ongoing.

To benefit from this, you need a Concession myki card which you can get from any manned train station on the spot by showing them your Victorian Carers Card (aka We Care Card).

If you don't have a Victorian Carers Card, apply for your Victorian Carers Card online. Go to: https://dhhs-cardoperations.my.site.com/CarerApplication/s/ The Concession myki card is normally sent to you as part of that application.

Hello to all parents, sports clubs, and schools in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. 👋

Please help me by sharing this important FREE parent course about keeping our teens safe from using or being victims of s*xual violence. 🙏 Starts 19th November!

This is from a parent participant, a great result even after attending just the very first of the four sessions!👍

“I attended the 1st session of the Keeping Kids Safe course....I have to say it was excellent, and led onto some great (well overdue) chats with my daughter today about the exciting/scary world they're coming of age in.”

Honestly, without bragging, the course is excellent - every parent needs it!
We have already run two, and the feedback is amazing!

Keeping Kids Safe (KKS) is a free, four-session course for parents and caregivers of Year 7 and 8 students, designed to build confidence in discussing relationships, consent, respect, and s*x with their young people in a way that aligns with their family values, culture, and faith. The program is designed to prevent s*xual violence, is backed by research and created by a team of experts in health, education and gender equality.

For parents and carers:
Prevent s*xual violence from happening among young people
Feel more confident talking about consent and s*x
Understand how gender inequality contributes to violence
Learn about recent changes to Victorian consent laws
Explore age-appropriate, positive ways to talk about s*xuality
Support your child’s learning at school through Respectful Relationships

Keeping Kids Safe is coming to Northcote! Open to all local parents!

This FREE program helps parents and caregivers build skills and confidence to support young people as they grow up in a complex world.

✅ Parents of Year 7 & 8
