International Day of People with Disability - 3 December

𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲: 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀

Today we join people across Australia and around the world in recognising 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, a day dedicated to celebrating the achievements, contributions, and strengths of people with disability, and to advocating for a future built on accessibility, inclusion, and respect.

This year’s theme highlights the importance of designing societies where people with disability can participate on equal footing, without barriers or assumptions. At 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀, we’re committed to promoting choice, independence, and meaningful inclusion every day.

And in 2026, we’ll be putting this commitment into action by being part of the City of Prospect’s Access & Inclusion Advisory Group and contributing to the rollout of their new Disability Access & Inclusion Plan.

I was really privileged to attend the City of Prospect’s Accessibility and Inclusion Advisory Group meeting last night, where we reviewed the draft 4-year Disability Access and Inclusion Plan.

It was interesting to learn more about the DAIP and to see such a strong commitment to creating a community where people with disability, their families and carers can participate fully, feel safe, and belong.

What stood out to me was the genuine focus on:

Listening to lived experience
Improving access to spaces, services and information
Building a more inclusive, welcoming community for everyone

Thank you to City of Prospect for inviting community voices into this process, because meaningful change happens when we design with people, not for them.

I’m looking forward to being an ongoing part of this group in 2026 and seeing this plan come to life over the next four years and to contributing to accessibility and inclusion in our local area.

These are important conversations and I feel proud to represent 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 and the people we support and I will do my best to represent them well. 💜🩷🩵

Welcome to the Team, Bianca!

We’re excited to welcome 𝗕𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗮 𝗡𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗸𝘄𝗮 to Metrocare Services as our newest 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿. We’re pleased to share that with Bianca joining the team we now have capacity to take on new Support Coordination clients.

With over 13 years of experience across child protection, aged care, and the NDIS, Bianca brings exceptional knowledge, strong advocacy skills, and a deep commitment to empowering people to live with independence, choice, and control. Her strengths in relationship-building, problem-solving, and navigating complex systems make her an incredible asset to our team and to the participants she supports.

We come together like this regularly to make sure we’re providing the best possible support for the people we work alongside. Collaboration is something we truly value here at 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀, everyone’s voice matters, and everyone has something important to bring to the table.

Support workers, leadership and coordinators all work together to share insight, problem-solve, and make sure we’re staying connected to the person’s goals, preferences and needs.

Everyone has a voice. Everyone’s insight matters.
And together, we look at what’s working, what could be strengthened, and how we can continue to support our client in the way that feels right for them.

This is how person-centred care actually happens, in real relationships, shared ideas, and genuine teamwork.

What is a Psychosocial Disability?

Psychosocial disability is a term used to describe the challenges people may experience due to a mental health condition. But it’s not the diagnosis itself — it’s how that condition can impact a person’s everyday life.
