• MINDFULNESS •

Day five of Women’s Health Week focuses on being kind to your mind.

✨ Taking care of your mental health is a fundamental pillar to overall health and wellbeing.

✨ At Flow, we advocate for our patients to be taking care of their mental health in order to optimise their physical health outcomes.

✨ One of your most prescribed exercises in clinic is mindfulness, in whichever form feels like the right fit for you.

✨ This might be in the form of deep belly breathing, meditation or body scanning.

✨ It might be a walk with no headphones, paying attention to your surroundings.

✨ It might be reading a book.

• PAIN TO POWER •

Day four of women’s health week shines a light on pain.

Pain isn’t just ‘part of being a woman’, and it certainly isn’t something you should have to put up with.

Every woman deserves to be heard, understood and provided with proper health care. Today we are focusing on pelvic pain which can include…

💚 Bladder pain
💚 Bowel pain
💚 Pain with intimacy
💚 Painful periods
💚 Endo, adenyo, PCOS
💚 Pelvic (girdle, hip and back!) pain in pregnancy
💚 Postpartum pain (back, hip, pelvic, postural)
💚 and much more!

Optimising pelvic health can be an absolute game changer for women.

• MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE •

Day three of Women’s Health week focuses on heart health 💚

Heart disease affects women in ways that are often overlooked.

Today we are shining a light on movement as medicine as a way to optimise your heart health.

Movement looks different for everybody. Some get the runners high. Some love a slow walk or gentle stretch. Some love the burn from lifting weights.

If you’re new to exercise and are not sure where to get started, check out The Heart Foundations Walking groups, these are a great way to get your steps in while being part of a community.

• TAKE THE LEAD •

Day two of Women’s Health Week encourages women to be proactive in finding the right knowledge to have informed conversations about their health.

🌿Knowledge is power and with knowledge comes confidence.

🌿Ask the questions.

🌿Don’t be afraid to seek a second opinion.

• EVERY CHECK MATTERS •

Day one of Women’s Health Week focuses on prioritising your health by staying up to date with regular health checks.

We are shining a light on ✨pelvic health✨ an area that is often forgot about or something women just put up with. A lot of pelvic health concerns are what we would say ‘common but not normal’ i.e experienced by a lot of people and often normalised.

These might include;

✨ Bladder dysfunction such as leakage, urgency or pain
✨ Bowel dysfunction such as leakage, urgency, constipation, incomplete emptying
✨ Prolapse
✨ Pelvic pain such as endo, adenyo, v@ginismus, vulvodynia, s3xual pain
✨ Symptoms related to peri and menopause

If you experiencing any symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction you are not alone and help is available.

Check in with a pelvic health physio for a pelvic health check because every check matters.

• POSTNATAL CHECK •

Oh how we LOVE the postnatal check. This is a time to focus purely on YOU, your recovery and your goals.

This will typically include:

🌸 Pelvic floor assessment
🌸 Diastasis recti (ab separation) assessment
🌸 Deep core assessment
🌸 Scar care, desensitisation & massage
🌸 Safe return to exercise
🌸 Home exercise program
🌸 Addressing any concerns such as bladder dysfunction, bowel dysfunction and prolapse symptoms
🌸 Physical & mental preparation for return to intimacy
🌸 Prevention & management of mastitis & blocked ducts
🌸 and a whole lot more!

At Flow we recommend your postnatal check at 3-4 weeks postpartum, to start early rehabilitation.

Research shows that we should be commencing gentle movement and core rehab early. Clinically we see women who commence a supervised rehab program early have BETTER OUTCOMES.

Speak to your Women’s Health Physio who can provide you with an individualised assessment & plan.

With that said, postpartum can be a very challenging time and leaving the house for an appointment at 3 weeks postpartum might seem to overwhelming. In this case we recommend taking the pressure of and booking your postnatal check when you feel ready. Telehealth is a great alternative during the early stages.
