2025 has been a year.
I don’t have words of wisdom, or a highlight reel, or things I’ve learned to share.
However, I want to acknowledge those of you who gave something of yourselves this year.
The world needed you, we all need you.

How deep is granny’s grave?
How many people are buried here?
What is the oldest grave here?
How does all the dirt get back in the grave?
How did the dirt come out of the grave?
How long does it take?
How long until those other graves are settled?
Why are the mounds so high over those graves?
Where is the machinery that dug the holes?
Why is this section like this and the other sections smooth?

These were just some of the questions that were asked to me at yesterday’s graveside funeral from 2 gorgeously Curious minds.
These young children were very involved in their granny’s life. Very involved in her death, and her aftercare. And very involved in her funeral. Their parents knew how important it was to involve them as much as they wanted to be involved. They knew how important creative expression can be in grief, so they made sure that granny was buried with trinkets and treasure boxes and letters and drawings and flowers. And they also knew that these precious little souls might need time at any stage during the ceremony and the burial - so we made sure time & spaciousness was built in to the ceremony.
During my impromptu ‘Q & A’ session their parents let it be known that these questions had been asked many times before (the family had the foresight to visit the cemetery before the service was held).
And their little minds were still going in over time. Trying to make sense of everything.
I have all the time in the world for these questions. Because I know how vital considered answering is.
How much time would you have given to answer these questions?
These little curious brains that are trying to make sense of these very big topics at these young ages may need lots of patience and time.
If you don’t have it to give because you’re stretched too thin, please ask another trusted adult to take the time to do so.

Thank you

Last week we gathered at Albany Creek Memorial Park for a memorial service where grieving people could come together, no matter what kind of loss they’re carrying.

We wrote letters to the people (& pets) we miss, lit candles in their names, sang together, and were present in our grief without having to hide it.

There were hugs and smiles and tears and laughter, sometimes all at once.

The written offerings will be cremated in the new year and will be placed at a special memorial in the park grounds for any one to visit at any time. Not everyone has somewhere to commune with their person/people. So, this gathering place will be very special… it’s a place to also honour your own grief & expressions of love, sorrow etc.

These gatherings are so important. Because grief can feel incredibly isolating, but when you’re surrounded by people who understand, it can bring comfort.

To everyone who came and shared a piece of their heart- thank you. You made the space what it was.

If you’re walking through grief right now, just know you don’t have to do it alone. Sometimes being with others who understand makes all the difference. 🫶🏻
