Your Community Health welcomes the historic passing of the Treaty Bill in Victoria.

This milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter, one that recognises the sovereignty of First Peoples and creates a path for truth-telling, self-determination, and shared decision-making.

We acknowledge and honour the decades of leadership, advocacy, and tireless work of First Peoples, including the critical roles of the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria and the Yoorrook Justice Commission, in carrying this vision forward. Treaty has been generations in the making, driven by commitment to justice and healing.

For health, Treaty means change: a stronger voice for First Peoples in shaping the systems that affect health and wellbeing, greater accountability in government, and an opportunity to redesign services so they are led by and responsive to First Peoples’ priorities.

Your Community Health stands in support of Treaty as a crucial step toward health equity, self-determination, and a fairer Victoria for all.

We remain committed to working with local Aboriginal organisations and communities as Treaty is embedded.

Government bureaucrats, no matter how well-intentioned, don’t know what works and doesn’t work for our communities – we do.

If we want to see improvements in health, education and housing for our people, the practical solutions need to come from us.

As the democratic and representative body, the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria will be made permanent to make sure our communities are properly represented. Assembly Members will continue to advocate for our needs, hopes and aspirations.

Happy Ace Week! 🖤🤍💜

Ace Week (short for Asexuality Awareness Week) is a time to celebrate and support the asexual community. It is all about increasing understanding, building awareness, and raising visibility.

Asexual people can experience assumptions or questions that feel intrusive or invalidating, which can impact their sense of safety and belonging. The Being Valued Toolkit provides guidance for workplaces to understand these experiences, respond respectfully, and create environments where asexual staff feel supported, seen, and valued.

At Your Community Health, we strongly support the Raise the Rate campaign. Every day, we work with people relying on JobSeeker and other income support, and we see the toll that financial hardship takes on health and wellbeing. With the rising cost of living, many people face impossible choices - skipping meals, delaying medications, or putting their own health aside to prioritise their families.

We know that income support is not just about money, it is about dignity, security, and the ability to live a life free from constant financial worry. By raising these payments, we can ensure people have the resources they need to care for themselves and their loved ones, maintain their health, and participate fully in the community.

We join Australian Council of Social Service and countless others in calling for a permanent increase to support the wellbeing and human rights of all Australians.
