Today our team came together at our wulempuri barring site to change the date ourselves, creating space for reflection, learning and connection grounded in truth-telling and wellbeing.

We shared a morning tea beautifully prepared by Jarrah Catering, an Aboriginal-owned business, before watching a video that sparked honest conversations about survival, resistance and the ongoing impacts of colonisation.

The day concluded with a Spirit Walk along the Spiritual Healing Trail at Darebin Parklands. The walk offered a quiet space for reflection and appreciation of Country.

Choosing to change the date ourselves is part of our ongoing work to listen, learn and act with intention.

Your Community Health acknowledges the importance of changing the date of Australia Day and the ongoing impacts it has on First Nations peoples.

Our wulempuri barring (East Reservoir) site will remain open, and all services will continue as usual. Clients are welcome to attend appointments as normal.

The Medicare Urgent Care Clinic, located at our wulempuri dhumba (Northcote) site, will also be open and accepting clients on the day.

We invite our community to take time to reflect and engage in conversations about reconciliation and understanding.

Today is a National Day of Mourning for the victims of the Bondi Beach terrorist attack. Tonight, landmarks across Australia will light up to show unity and drive out the darkness.

In dark times, we must also be the light by standing together against hate, and creating the safe and inclusive communities we want to live in.

At 7:01pm, community members will be invited to observe a moment of silence. You can also show your respect by lighting a candle on your doorstep or window, or by undertaking one of the 15 suggested Mitzvah for the lives lost in the Bondi attack: https://www.nsw.gov.au/community-services/one-mitzvah-for-bondi

We were pleased to join in the festivities of the Midsumma Festival last Sunday. The crowd was massive, the weather was glorious and the vibe was amazing!

Together with our Drag Superheroes we celebrated the LGBTIQA+ community, particularly through the tough past year dealing with attacks on rights and access and the increasing cost of living. YourCH’s amazing community health nurses were also very proud to partner with our Thorne Harbour Health buddies to offer onsite cervical self-collection and information in a friendly, safe, accessible setting, where everyone with a cervix was welcome (and celebrated).

Thanks to everyone who came and to all those we engaged with, and we are looking forward to joining the upcoming Pride March.

From 1 December 2025 to 28 February 2026, if you are at Northland (a designated area) police officers and Protective Services Officers (PSOs) have extra powers. They can stop and search you or a car (if someone is inside the car) for weapons, without a warrant or a reason.

👮 Explanation: Officers should tell you they are searching for weapons because of the designated area. If they don not, you can ask why.
📝 Identification: You can ask for the officer's name, rank, and station, and you can ask them to write it down for you.
📱 Privacy: Police and PSOs cannot search your phone. These specific powers are strictly for weapons.
📄 Process: They must give you a search notice before searching you or your car.
If you are under 18, a parent, guardian, or independent adult should be present if a pat-down is required.
