Today is the start of Lymphoedema Awareness Week💙

This week is about building awareness of lymphoedema, a chronic condition caused by a malfunction of the lymphatic system. It can affect anyone, at any age, and often has a significant impact on physical comfort, daily life and overall wellbeing.

There is no cure, but early recognition and the right support can help manage symptoms and prevent the condition from progressing.

If you or someone you know is living with ongoing swelling or related symptoms, help is available.

Today is Zero Discrimination Day, a day to reaffirm the right of everyone to live with dignity and without fear of stigma. This year, UNAIDS highlights the persistent discrimination faced by people living with and at risk of HIV, a barrier to ending AIDS by 2030.

💡 Did you know?

1 in 4 people living with HIV face discrimination in healthcare.
85% experience internalized stigma, impacting their mental health and access to care.
Discrimination denies fundamental rights, fuels the AIDS epidemic, and holds back progress. Together, we can change this by:
1️⃣ Removing discriminatory laws.
2️⃣ Protecting the right to stigma-free healthcare.
3️⃣ Challenging myths and promoting inclusion.
4️⃣ Supporting community-led responses.

As Ramadan approaches, we would like to extend our heartfelt wishes to all members of our Muslim community.

Ramadan is a sacred and meaningful time of fasting, reflection, spiritual renewal, and strengthening community connections. During this month, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset as an act of faith and devotion.

Ramadan 2026 is expected to begin for most Muslims on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, or Thursday, 19 February 2026, and will last for one month, with the exact dates contingent upon the sighting of the moon.

We encourage everyone observing Ramadan to prioritise their health and well-being by staying hydrated between Iftar and Suhoor, enjoying nourishing meals, and listening to their body’s needs.

Wishing you a peaceful, healthy, and blessed Ramadan.

It is another hot day in Melbourne and a reminder that climate change is here — and extreme heat days are becoming more common. We know that heat has serious impacts on health, especially for older Australians, making investment in climate resilience more important than ever.

This summer, thanks to funding from Darebin City Council, we have been running a Heat Health project focused on practical community education. Our experienced community engager has been working across our health centres and with local community groups to share simple, effective ways people can protect their health in the heat.

So far, we have reached almost 200 community members. Before these conversations, around 84% of participants reported being only a little familiar with heat-related health risks. After engaging with the program, 86% said they felt very confident in understanding how heat can affect their health, and 88% found the information very useful. Three quarters of participants were aged 65+, and almost 40% spoke a language other than English.

This project shows that investing in community awareness about climate and health can make a real difference. Community health services are well placed to lead this work, and we’ll continue advocating for stronger investment to protect the health of our communities as our climate changes.

Today marks the anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generations, an important moment in our journey toward truth-telling and healing. The Apology delivered in Parliament in 2008 was a vital step, but the path to genuine reconciliation and justice continues.

We acknowledge the enduring trauma experienced by Stolen Generations survivors and their families, and we recognise the strength and resilience of First Nations peoples. True reconciliation requires continued action, guided by truth, respect and partnership.
