We were thrilled to mark the International Day of People with Disability at Royal Rehab Ryde with a very special guest: David Hall, Paralympic gold medallist and tennis hall-of-famer. David joined us to chat about his new autobiography Superbeast and to share the moments, challenges and triumphs that shaped his incredible career.

As one of Australia’s most successful wheelchair tennis athletes, David has won every major international open and collected six Paralympic medals, including his unforgettable gold at the Sydney 2000 Games. Hearing him speak felt surprisingly personal, almost like you were having a conversation just with him. He was down-to-earth, genuinely funny and wonderfully open.

Channel Seven News presenter Taylor Aiken guided the conversation with a relaxed and natural touch, while staff joined both in person and online.

A big thank you to David for helping us celebrate the International Day of People with Disability in such a meaningful and memorable way.

We can’t wait to dive into Superbeast!

Today is a day to recognise the lives, voices, and contributions of people with disability and to think about what we can do to make communities more inclusive.

Across Royal Rehab Group, our focus is on providing the support, tools, and opportunities people need to take part in life on their own terms. Inclusion is not just a goal, it is about everyday actions such as listening, learning, and designing spaces and services alongside the people who use them.

Every step we take towards accessibility makes a difference, and together we can build communities where everyone can fully participate and belong. Today is a reminder to keep that momentum going. To stay curious, stay engaged, and keep championing inclusion in the everyday moments that matter.

Sargood On Collaroy, part of Royal Rehab Group, teamed up with Forward Ability Support and BrightSky Australia for an epic day of adaptive surfing at URBNSURF Sydney, welcoming more than 30 participants ready to hit the waves.

Co-created with Forward Ability Support, BrightSky Australia and four-time world champion para-surfer Sam Bloom, the program gives people with spinal cord injuries and similar neurological conditions the chance to feel the freedom and fun of surfing. With personalised support from the Sargood team, the day was safe, relaxed and full of good vibes.

Beginners kicked off on the clean, learner-friendly waves, followed by intermediate and advanced surfers, with Sam Bloom and Australian para-surfing champion Lee Ferrier inspiring everyone.

By the end of the day, there were tired muscles, big smiles and plenty of pride. It was all about trying something new, having fun and sharing the waves!

Today at Royal Rehab Ryde, we were honoured to welcome Biayanskiy Oleg, Head of the Unbroken Rehabilitation Centre in Ukraine, and Tetiana Stawnychy, President of Caritas Ukraine.

Our guests toured our Technology Centre before sharing presentation on the vital work their teams are doing.

Unbroken is the largest rehabilitation hospital in Ukraine, providing multidisciplinary care to people affected by the war, including advanced programs in robotic prosthetics and rehabilitation innovation.

Caritas Ukraine’s humanitarian work across both urban and rural areas has been instrumental in rebuilding communities, from supporting the establishment of rehabilitation centres to providing immediate, on-the-ground assistance in the aftermath of mass crises.

We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to exchange knowledge and strengthen our shared commitment to restoring independence and hope through rehabilitation.

Royal Rehab on the World Stage at ACRM | American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, Chicago

Our team including, Jason Redhead, Jessica Beauman, and Dr Julie Pryor presented “Therapy Goals in a Tech-Enabled Rehab”, sharing Royal Rehab’s journey and early insights.

Therapy goals have always been central to neurorehabilitation, but how do they evolve when cutting-edge technology becomes part of everyday practice?

Since 2020, Royal Rehab Group has been integrating advanced rehabilitation technology, with more than 27 systems now supporting clients across inpatient, outpatient, and community services.

Since 2022:
• 25 clinicians interviewed across 63 sessions
• 9,500+ tech-enabled therapy sessions analysed

Emerging trends:
• Shift from impairment-focused to functional, real-life participation goals
• More specific and personalised goal setting
• Increased client engagement and motivation

Rehab technology is enhancing therapy, unlocking more meaningful, individualised, and goal-driven rehabilitation.

We are proud to represent Australian innovation and leadership in neurorehabilitation on the global stage.

Our Story

Royal Rehab is led by an experienced and specialised team dedicated to maximising the life skills, abilities and independence of people living with a disability.

Founded in 1899 through a visionary act of philanthropy, Royal Rehab was formed to give hope, comfort and connection to hospital patients discharged as “incurable”, often with no family, money or ability to work.

Today, more than 100 years on, Royal Rehab continues to lead the way in clinical, research and teaching excellence and person-centred rehabilitation and disability support.

Royal Rehab’s innovative projects, programs and services employs a model of rehabilitation that takes recovery beyond the traditional clinical environment and integrates it with activities in everyday life to promote community participation and independence.
