☀️ Welcome Summer! ☀️
As the sunshine rolls in, it’s the perfect time to remind ourselves and our little ones that sun protection isn’t optional, it’s essential. In Australia, where UV levels are some of the highest in the world, forming sun-safe habits early can make a big difference.
✨ Did you know?
UV damage during childhood and adolescence is strongly linked to an increased risk of skin cancer later in life.
Everyday sun protection, including sunscreen, has been shown to reduce the risk of melanoma in later years (ARPANSA).
It’s not just about hot days, when the UV Index is 3 or higher, sun protection is needed (RCH).
👶 For kids:
Cover up with loose, sun-protective clothing and a broad-brim hat (Cancer Council Australia).
Apply a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen (SPF 50+) to exposed skin and reapply every two hours or sooner if swimming or sweating.
Be a role model — kids are more likely to protect themselves if they see adults doing it too.
🙋♂️🙋♀️ Let’s make this summer fun and safe. Encourage your kids to play, explore, and enjoy the sunshine while keeping their skin protected.
