I first came across this quote after reading it in a French novel called “The Little Prince” in about Year 11 or 12. We would volunteer ourselves to read out loud in class to help us with our French speaking assessment as part of our HSC preparation.
It is an oft quoted expression, that speaks of the insight and knowing of the heart. The heart and mind connection is becoming more and more appreciated. The heart is our electrical centre, our giver of life, our emotional centre and so much more than that.
The Heart Math Institute* has coined a phrase “Personal Coherence” - it is described by them as “a harmonious state where our hearts, minds and bodies are united in cooperation and flow.”
Coherence can be explained as being in alignment, which is akin to being in harmony.
How much of our day is spent with our hearts, minds, and bodies in actual harmony?
Day to day stressors can create an imbalance with how we handle unexpected situations, those things that catch us off guard.
It is easy to see without coherence of our hearts, minds, and bodies our responses may easily be an off the cuff reactivity to a moment in time.
For me regulating my breath and becoming mindful and in the moment helps.
When used regularly in a mindful meditation focusing on our senses, and our heart, we have the chance to be more in tune with that alignment by creating the space to allow and recognise it. This makes it easier to down regulate when we are in a heightened state as our body knows what to do when we lead the way.
