- Glass jar
- Dried Calendula flowers
- Carrier Oil
- Scales
GLASS JAR:
Must be sterilised - can be a mason jar (The Reject Shop is good for this), old jam jar, jar with clip lid top.
- To sterilise: either put in oven on 100 C for 10 mins, OR Boil jar in saucepan for 10 mins.

CARRIER OIL:
Get from New Directions
They stock everything you need for making skincare products.
METHOD:
1. Place sterilised jar on top of scales, hit "zero" to not include weight of jar
2. Fill jar with Calendula flowers - write the weight on a label
3. Pour some oil into measuring jug - write amount on label, then pour oil into the glass jar, covering the flowers
4. Seal jar with the lid and stick label on - include these details:
- Date
- Weight of dried Calendula flowers
- Amount of oil used
5. Put jar into a cupboard away from sunlight + heat for a min. of 4 weeks - the longer you leave it, the stronger it gets!
6. Shake the jar every few days
7. After a minimum of 4 weeks in the cupboard, open the jar and strain the mixture with muslin to filter out the Calendula flowers.
8. Discard Calendula flowers and pour the Calendula-infused oil into a sterilised bottle.
9. Label bottle with the date you first made the oil, + the date you strained it, as well as the strength (ratio) of the oil - see below:
Ratio (strength) of oil = Weight of Calendula flowers : amount of oil used.
Eg.: 20 grams of Calendula flowers to 300mL of oil = 1:15 Ratio
For a stronger oil, add more flowers to the oil you strained, and repeat entire process.
