The use of artificial intelligence is ever-increasing in the scope of allied health. Recently, an NDIS participant’s bid to increase her $202,000 support package was rejected in part because two physiotherapists had used AI tools to help draft reports submitted as evidence.
Whilst AI can streamline documentation, physiotherapists remain fully accountable for any document submitted under their name.
Barry Nguyen APAM is a member of the APA's new AI Advisory Group, and in the latest edition of InMotion, he discusses the risks of using AI in a clinical setting without appropriate proper oversight.
'When physiotherapists sign their name to a report, they affirm both the accuracy of its content and the integrity of their judgement,' Barry states. 'Technology should serve that trust, not replace it.'
