Did you know Modalis is part of a Youth rTMS Research Study? 🧠✨

We’re proud to collaborate with researchers from The University of Western Australia and the Perron Institute on research projects exploring the developing brain and youth mental health. 🧠

One of these studies is designed to help researchers better understand how rTMS interacts with brain activity in young people aged 15–24. Young people with a diagnosis of depression who have not undergone TMS before may be eligible to take part.

Participation includes receiving a standard TMS protocol for depression at our either one of our Modalis clinic locations or the Perron Institute, followed by three visits to the Perron Institute. These visits involve completing an MRI, some computer-based tasks, and a set of questionnaires.

All out-of-pocket MRI and TMS treatment costs are covered by the Perron Institute as reimbursement for participating while enrolled in the study.

This research aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the developing brain and may help inform how rTMS is personalised for young people in the future. 🧠

If you’re aged 15–24 and would like to learn more, you can contact the research team at tms@perron.uwa.edu.au, or chat with one of our clinicians at Modalis for general information.

What does “treatment-resistant depression” actually mean? 🧠

It’s not a diagnosis, it’s a clinical description we use when someone with major depressive disorder hasn’t improved after the usual steps like therapy and trying two antidepressant medications. This is also how Medicare defines eligibility for TMS.

TMS is a non-invasive therapy that may be an alternative option when other treatments haven’t helped.

Speak to your GP to see whether TMS is suitable for you and what options they recommend. 🧠

If you have any questions about TMS, please contact our team on (08) 6166 3733 or visit www.modalis.com.au.

Your brain deserves the same care you give your body 🧠

Just like exercise strengthens your body, calm moments strengthen your nervous system.

This quote is a reminder to treat your brain with the same patience and compassion you show your body when it’s tired.

Taking time to reset supports focus, mood, and emotional regulation. 💚

What does your brain need today?

Let’s breakdown the TMS setup…

When you come to your TMS session you will notice this set up in the treatment room...

Our reclining chair is cushioned to enhance your comfort. ✨

The MRI brain image is used to guide your TMS treatment, allowing the coil to be positioned within millimetre accuracy based on your unique brain…this is what we call Neuronavigation technology. 🧠

A specially designed coil rests gently on the head and delivers targeted magnetic pulses that stimulate specific areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. 🧠

If you’re nervous about your first treatment session, that’s okay. It can be daunting trying something new, but our fabulous TMS Clinicians are with you throughout the process.

If you have any further questions regarding TMS, please don’t hesitate to contact our team on (08) 6166 3733 or visit www.modalis.com.au.

“Let it first exist and do it better later.”

From our Bunbury TMS clinician 🤍

Instead of aiming for perfect, aim for possible. Show up in the way you can for now because you can always improve later, but you can’t improve what never begins. ✨

Progress begins when you give yourself permission to start something exactly where you are!

One small step, one small action, one moment at a time is enough. ✨

Mental Health Reminder…🧠

Celebrate a small win today!

On the days where you only have 1% to give and you give that 1%, you should feel proud of yourself. You’ve given something all that you’ve got even if you didn’t feel like it and that’s progress in itself. ✨

A small win could be getting out of bed, going outdoors for 5 minutes, or even going to the shops.

Progress isn’t always about doing more, sometimes it’s about honouring what you can do. When you acknowledge those small wins, you build self-trust and compassion towards yourself!

If you want further information on how TMS therapy can support your mental health, call us on (08) 6166 3733 or visit our website at www.modalis.com.au.
