Ge to know one of our amazing support workers, Ivana!
She's been with us for almost a year and brings so much warmth and dedication to her role.
Q: What’s your favourite part of working for us?
"What I enjoy most about my role is building genuine connections with clients. I love sharing activities with them, supporting their independence, and seeing the confidence and joy that come from their progress and achievements."
Q: Why did you choose to be a support worker?
"Before moving to Australia, I had never heard of this type of work. I’m originally from Slovakia, where this role doesn’t really exist. Three years ago, when my family and I moved here, I met a woman who has since become a very close friend. She has a son with a disability, and she gave me the opportunity to support him. I immediately felt that this work was meaningful, rewarding and full of purpose. It opened my eyes to a completely new perspective on life."
Q: What’s something you like to do outside of work?
"I love being active and spending time with my children. We’re a very energetic and sporty family. We train most days of the week, enjoy creative activities together, and love spending time with friends."
Q: Do you have a fun fact about yourself or a special talent?
"I wouldn’t say I have any special talent, but I’m always striving to grow. I’d love to play a musical instrument one day, speak English fluently, and start learning Spanish. As a child, I trained in biathlon and became a confident downhill skier – something I really miss here. On the other hand, living in Australia taught me how to swim, which I couldn’t do before :)"
Q: Drink of choice?
"My go-to drink is a small long black with no sugar. I also enjoy matcha with oat milk, although I usually order it only from places I trust."
Q: Early bird? Night owl?
"I’m definitely a night owl. While I now enjoy getting up earlier to fit in my training and have some quiet time, evenings are still when I feel most creative."
Thank you for everything you do! Stay tuned for our next staff feature!
