March Australia (formerly March in March Australia) is a grassroots people's movement which began on social media and developed rapidly in early 2014. It is now an alliance of regional groups acting locally and sometimes nationally to protest the socially regressive decisions and policies of the Coalition government. On a weekend in March 2014, over 100,000 people marched in some 32 locations across Australia, under the banner of “The People United For Better Government”. Australians who value fairness, decency, accountability and transparency are aware that Coalition government decisions are not upholding Australia’s egalitarian values. Our Members
We are all volunteers and our rallies are peaceful and family-friendly. Our members come from all backgrounds and walks of life. The March Australia movement is people-powered and unassociated with any political party or organisation. Our members naturally make their own choices as to personal affiliation with political parties or groups. Our activism relies on information, debate and discussion leading to effective collaboration based on unity, empathy and kindness. Our Purpose
March Australia seeks transparency and accountability from governments of all stripes. Our shared purpose is to achieve the higher standard of government this country deserves. We strive for an Australia where:
education, healthcare and social support is accessible to all and not just the few. our shared natural environment is protected and conserved for the future. social justice and human rights are respected. governments respect the public interest in all decision making. March Australia provides a platform for people to draw attention to the issues of greatest concern to them. Our Shared Vision
March Australia relies on the input of ordinary people with the passion and desire to see an equitable system in place for all people, not just in Australia, but globally. We are calling for policy-making based on evidence-based research, expert opinion and economic modelling rather than neoliberal ideological beliefs. We must act now to ensure politicians and the media adjust their policies to include all aspects of social justice, with a greater emphasis on equality and compassion. March Australia unites all people who will stand up for the Fair Go. This page is operated by volunteers. It exists to inform the public about issues of current concern and to promote protests, events and rallies nationally. As the movement continues to grow, the list of concerns expands rapidly. That is why March Australia does not restrict the collective goal to a limited issue, but encourages supporters to march for the issues important to them under the collective sentiment ‘Australians united for a better Government.’
The purest and most powerful of campaigns are grown from grassroots and that is exactly what this has been - built from the bottom-up. We marched as one from all walks of life in hopes of motivating Australians to make use of their voice beyond the ballot-box; participation by any and all peaceful supporters of the cause is welcomed and encouraged.
