Meet Crystal — Holistic Counsellor & Somatic Practitioner

At Hinterland Health Retreat, we’re proud to have a team of practitioners who bring together the best of science, spirit, and heart. One of those incredible people is Crystal Morris.

Crystal is a qualified Holistic Counsellor whose passion lies in therapy that not only works — but deeply empowers. She blends the science of psychology, neuroscience, and somatic psychotherapy with principles from quantum physics, energy work, and phenomenology. The result? A truly integrative experience that supports the whole person — body, mind, and spirit.

Her training is both rich and specialised, including:
– Diploma in Holistic Counselling
– Certificate in Somatic Attachment Theory
– Somatic Stress Release Practitioner Certification
– Certified TRE® Provider (Trauma/Tension Release Exercises)
– Certificate in Traumatic Stress Studies (in progress)

With a strong focus on trauma and resilience, Crystal supports individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship challenges. Her approach bridges the gap between conventional mental health care and alternative, heart-centred therapies — creating a safe, compassionate space for healing.

Crystal’s mission is simple but powerful: to make holistic therapy accessible, impactful, and truly life-changing. She believes every person carries the wisdom to heal within themselves — and her role is to help reconnect you to that wisdom, restore balance, and support lasting transformation.

Building Resilience - A Holistic Approach

Over the years, I’ve noticed something powerful in my work with clients:
True resilience isn’t built in a single breakthrough moment — it’s built step by step.

Through my own journey and years of supporting others, I’ve discovered that building lasting mental and emotional resilience follows a 5-step process.

But here’s the thing — most mainstream mental health approaches focus almost entirely on Step 3 & 4:
🌀 Revising the past – digging into childhood experiences, traumas, and patterns
🌀 Rewriting the story – reframing beliefs and behaviors

And while these are incredibly valuable steps, they often don’t work as well unless we’ve already done the groundwork of Step 1 & 2:

1️⃣ Resources – Creating a foundation of safety, supportive habits, and practical tools
2️⃣ Regulation – Learning to move through triggers and big emotions without becoming stuck or overwhelmed

Without these, therapy can feel destabilizing — like opening the floodgates without having a boat to hold onto.

That’s why I created my Resilience Program: to guide clients through all five steps, in order, so healing feels grounded, sustainable, and empowering.

Here’s the full framework:
1️⃣ Resources – Build your personal toolkit of daily supports
2️⃣ Regulation – Learn how to calm and reset your nervous system
3️⃣ Revise – Make sense of the past and find meaning in your experiences
4️⃣ Rewrite – Shift old patterns, beliefs, and stories into empowering ones
5️⃣ Resilience – Bring it all into your daily life: set boundaries, communicate clearly, and align with your values and purpose

And this isn’t a “tick the box and you’re done” process — it’s a cycle you can return to throughout your life as new challenges arise, growing stronger each time.

When you work with me 1:1, you receive:

TRE is Not a Quick Fix — It’s a Practice

TRE (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises) is a simple but powerful way to reset your nervous system. Using a series of gentle stretches and fatigue exercises, we activate a neurogenic tremor response — the body’s natural way of down-regulating the nervous system and releasing stored stress hormones.

At first, the tremors often begin in the legs and hips, but over time they flow through the whole body — melting deep tension from the fascia, calming the mind, and helping you feel more grounded and resilient.

But here’s the secret: the magic happens with regular practice.
TRE is most effective when done 2–3 times a week. Think of it like brushing your teeth — the more consistently you release tension, the less build-up there is and the better you feel.

That’s where weekly classes come in. Practicing with a facilitator gives you:
✅ Guidance to explore different positions & deepen the tremors
✅ Support to move through blockages safely
✅ A held, safe space so you don’t feel overwhelmed
✅ Accountability to actually show up for yourself

Montville health retreat earns world-class recognition

Born from one woman’s search for lasting healing, a Montville retreat has been recognised among the world’s top ten health retreats and has just hosted its first major event with leading health and sport figures.

Hinterland Health Retreat was conceived by founder Jackie Durnin after her own struggles with mental and emotional wellbeing.

Set on 30 acres in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, the centre combines advanced neuro-technology with holistic therapies to treat conditions such as anxiety, depression, burnout and trauma.

Ms Durnin said the idea was always to create a sanctuary where people could address the root causes of distress in a supportive environment.

“Hinterland Health Retreat was born from my own journey to find lasting healing, and my deep belief that true transformation is possible when we address the root causes of distress,” she said.

The retreat, which has already earned a place on body+soul’s global top ten list, last week hosted its inaugural live event, drawing national attention.

Guests included television presenter Barry Du Bois, Olivia Arezzolo - Sleep Expert, Dr Sarah Jane Perry and triple Olympian Aron Baynes.

The event provided a platform for open conversations about the growing prevalence of mental health challenges and showcased the retreat’s pioneering methods, including its MindShift Lab, designed to retrain the nervous system and help guests achieve balance and clarity.

For Montville, the recognition cements its place on the global wellness map, with the retreat drawing interest well beyond the hinterland community.
