When you apply a good quality, pure essential oil to your skin it is quickly absorbed and travels to every cell in your body within 20 mins, which is pretty amazing isnt it? But when we are emotional, upset, scared, sad and need them to work faster, then the best way is to drop 1-2 drops of you choice of oil on your palms, activate their magic by spreading them in a clockwise direction 3 times with 2 or three fingers. Then close your eyes and breathe in and out each time, inhaling their aromas deeply and breathing out. Removing your hands between breathes as you don't want to breathe out on your hands.
Breathing them in directs their wellness benefits directly from the olfactory bulb to your Amygdala. The Amygdala is an almond-shaped brain structure located in the temporal lobe that plays a central role in processing emotions, such as fear, anger, aggression, anxiety, and pleasure. It attaches emotional significance to memories and helps trigger the body's fight-or-flight response when it detects a threat. As a key part of the limbic system, it also influences emotional learning and memory formation.
By breathing a calming oil it tells your body not to send out any more stress hormones like cortisol or adrenaline as the gentle calming oils will calm you naturally.
But if your purpose is to energise or invigorate or to clear brain fog then breathe in a beautiful energising oil like peppermint, lemon or eucalyptus. Keep peppermint a bit further out as it contains menthol, which is fantastic for easy breathing and clearing but might make your eyes water so keep them closed.
