If period pain is disrupting your life, talk to a doctor. And if your concerns are dismissed (which unfortunately still happens - I’m sorry if you’ve experienced this), please seek a second opinion. You deserve to be heard and supported.

Fingers crossed these vaccines make it onto the National Immunisation Program & are government funded for everyone one day soon 🤞🏽 And that we have more supply too!

Also just a side note, while not covered in this post, RSV vaccination is also recommended for all people aged ≥75 years and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged ≥60 years, and people with medical risk factors for severe RSV disease aged ≥60 years.

LARCs (long acting reversible contraceptives) are becoming an increasingly popular option in recent years, in people of all ages and stages of life. Hormonal IUDs are locally acting (minimal systemic absorption), and a ‘set and forget’ option (doesn’t require you to remember a pill each day; and is not reliant on gut absorption).
Here are some FAQs about the hormonal lUD options currently available in Australia: Mirena & Kyleena. As with all hormonal contraceptives there is a lot of misinformation out there. Every patient deserves a thorough discussion to go over the different contraceptive options, possible risks and benefits, before deciding on the most suitable option for that person. Sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error before finding something that works well for you. A regular GP you are comfortable with and can follow up with is key to this process.
Note: these are just some FAQs and not a complete explanation of hormonal lUDs, and of course should not replace a consultation with your own doctor.
