When faced with an initial panic attack it can be terrifying and confusing. With the right help they can be managed and prevented, no longer overwhelming us. Nate openly shared his story as an Australian TV presenter, and expertly navigates panic when it arises.

Sometimes this is the mother that people talk about in our sessions. And sometimes it's the loss of that mother. And sometimes it's the loss that this is not the mother they ever had.

No matter the feelings that Mother's day brings up for you, it is an opportunity to reflect on the countless ways in which motherhood shapes our identities, our relationships, and our narratives of love and loss. As we approach Mother's Day, we find echoes of the profound human experience, where the word "mother" embodies a universe of emotions, memories, and unspoken truths. What emotions or memories does Mother's Day evoke for you, and how do you navigate them?

* It's still pretty much the new year *
Although we could do this throughout, I love that at this time of year we take the time to reflect, imagine, create, set new goals, explore and unwind.

Here are some questions that could help you as we settle into this year:

πŸ’ What new things did I learn last year?
πŸ’ What did I change for the better, even in small ways?
πŸ’ Do I feel proud of accomplishments?
πŸ’ Am I willing to make mistakes, to grow and learn?
πŸ’ Where am I holding myself back?
πŸ’ What matters most to me? What do I value?
πŸ’ What makes me the happiest?
πŸ’ What do I regret?
πŸ’ Can I view mistakes with gentleness and compassion?
πŸ’ What do I want to do differently?
πŸ’ Do I feel connected to others? Who do I want to spend more time with?
πŸ’ Am I connected to myself?
πŸ’ Do I connect to community and nature?
πŸ’ Do I take the time to slow down? Be present?
πŸ’ Where do I want to be in six months? Is it the same place as now?
πŸ’ What do I want to give back?

Wishing you a Happy New Year. Last year RM Psychology opened to provide more individuals with the right support and flexibility. We are grateful and excited to continue to provide the same services this year and to exploring more opportunities to share information and assist people beyond the therapy room.

When clients are struggling with distress we may focus on the role of thoughts, the story we tell ourselves. In cognitive therapy we begin to notice and ask questions to balance thoughts which come up unquestioningly.

Questions like:
- is that really true?
- am I just being hard on myself?
-what else could be happening?
- if I wasn't feeling like this would I see it another way?
And my personal favourites
- what would someone who cares about/love me say if I told them?
- what would I say to someone else if they had this thought?

Happy Friday! I've laughed so much at this. The struggle IS real for the ADHD tribe as they are led by interest over importance. Just like Leonardo Da Vinci who stopped working on commissioned artworks once he had mastered a new technique. He is still recognised as one of our, if not the, greatest artist and inventor of all time.

This is a beautiful illustration that healing - the processing work we must go through - happens gradually. Whether it is from our own imperfect humanness or that of others, recovering and growing from it isn't linear and isn't always visible at first. It happens in stages.
