Fundraiser link in bio.

This is what climate injustice looks like. One-third of a country that contributes less than 1% of the global greenhouse gas emissions is now under water.

In light of the recent, unprecedented and catastrophic flooding in Pakistan, it is a humanitarian need for us to contribute and help those as much as we can. The disastrous floods have destroyed food supplies and wiped out farm land.

PAKSOCS from Sydney, USYD Muslims in Health society, Pakistan Youth Council of Australia, UTS Students for Humanity and UNSW MSA have decided to collaborate and start a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for those affected by the recent flooding in Pakistan through Human Appeal.

Pakistan has declared a NATIONAL Emergency. The United Nations and worldwide countries have begun humanitarian efforts. Let's play our role to help those in need by donating as much as possible, and sharing with those around us to maximise our impact.

Here are the current statistics regarding the floods:

Deaths:
At least 1,100 people including 380 children have unfortunately perished

Displaced:
Approximately 364,000 people and counting

People affected:
More than 50 million

Damaged area:
More than 1/3 of Pakistan

Damage costs:
At least USD 10 Billion

These numbers are rising daily and have no end in sight if proper action is not taken.

The aim of this fundraiser is to give these people hope that things will come back together and to provide them with the necessary resources they need to survive and build a new life.

Kindly donate as much as you can, an amount as small as $1 can make a difference.

Every cent counts. Every life matters.

Save Pakistan.

We’re coming close to the end of our Five Pillars of Islam series. Following on to the next part: Zakat! 💰

As one of the pillars of Islam, Zakat is a form of obligatory charity that has the potential to ease the suffering of millions around the world. With the literal meaning of Zakat being ‘to cleanse’, Muslims believe that paying Zakat purifies, increases, and blesses the remainder of their wealth. 🌍

It is narrated: “Whoever pays the zakat on his wealth will have its evil removed from him” (Ibn Khuzaimah and at-Tabaraani).

Zakat is also a spiritual connection to one’s maker – to purify your wealth for the sake of Allah (SWT) is to acknowledge that everything we own belongs to Him. Paying Zakat brings a sense of unity among the Ummah as it seeks to close the gap between the rich and poor. 🙏

Time to move on to the next stop of our series: Fasting 🚱

It is narrated by Abu Huraira ؓ that the Prophet ﷺ said: “(…) (Allah says about the fasting person), 'He has left his food, drink and desires for My sake. The fast is for Me. So I will reward (the fasting person) for it and the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times.”

Allah SWT Himself rewards the fasting person because we voluntarily leave out that which is Halal for us for His sake. This is why it is the third pillar of Islam, right after our Salah. There is so much more to fasting and Ramadan than we can cover in one post, and an innumerable amount more of benefits for us, physically, mentally and spiritually. May Allah accept our good deeds this Ramadan and allow us to remain steadfast until the next.

Let us continue our journey of visiting the 5 pillars of Islam. Next stop: Salah! 🛐

Salah is seen to be one of the most important pillars in Islam.
It was narrated from (SAW) said: “The first thing among their deeds for which the people will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be prayer." (Abu Dawood, 864)

The knowledge and blessings surrounding Salah is so expansive we couldn't fit it all in this post. We've instead merely scraped the surface by delving into the conditions of validating your Salah, the general health benefits of Salah and how neuroscience explains the barakah in Salah.
