We love getting out bushwalking on the weekend in the local forests and this time of year has the added bonus of mushrooms! So good at this time of year with the combination of warm and wet weather, the forests are laden with all sorts of goodies!

When last in Europe on pilgrimage we were there for porcini and truffle season - which is very special, but local chantarelles are hard to beat! Chanterelle is the common name of several species of agaricomycetous fungi in the genera Cantharellus, Craterellus, Gomphus and Polyozellus. These fungi are orange, yellow or white, meaty and funnel-shaped. Many species emit a fruity aroma and often have a mildly peppery and delicious taste!

We are on a short break in Sydney, but still love to get out walking every day. We came across a gorgeous bush track along the bay near Willoughby today. So much abundance of nature... from lush ferns and fragrant bush flowers to giant red gum trees, tiny fungi and water monitors (lizards). But the show stealers were of course the birds! When we come home to Australia after trips in Europe we're always welcomed home by our abundant and noisy birds!

Australia is home to about 10% of the world's bird species with almost 50% of these only found in Australia. Our song birds are both rich in colour and unique melodies that are the heart beat of our forests, coastlines and even cities.
The classic kookaburras, cockatoos and lorikeets can be heard here in this little reel!!
