Nice work The Royal Hospital for Women, Randwick Sheryl Sidery and Dr Andrew Bisits 🙏

If you'd told Camilla Kennedy five years ago that she would one day give birth at home, she says she probably would have laughed. But, just a few weeks ago, the 33-year-old did just that.

Happy Homebirth Awareness Week! Love this video of women sharing why they loved their homebirth 💜

Choosing to have my second baby girl at home in 2016 was one of the best decisions of my life. Go to www.homebirthnsw.org.au for info and inspiration about all things homebirth, and to support the work of this great organisation in advocating for women’s choices.

Yes! Great post by
Taking ’s ice holding exercise to a whole new level. Equip yourself with tools to settle the mind-body and create a more positive, calm, centred birth.

・・・
Ice baths seems to be all the rage at the moment! I find it so interesting that most of the images of people taking ice baths show them relaxed, breathing, eyes closed - finding comfort in the discomfort. Some are even smiling!

The repetition of seeing images like this creates an expected behaviour.

If you were to get into an ice bath after repeatedly seeing these positive images, I can assure you whilst your body will make you want to jump out, scream, shout ‘it’s so cold’ - your mind will remember the images of the people being calm, quiet and in control - and you will assume this behaviour. Your subconscious works powerfully in this way.

So what does this have to do with birth?

If all we have seen of birth is screaming, panic and fear-filled images - then what other behaviour do we have to model?

It is so important that we fill our subconscious with positive images of birth. That we learn that while birth may be intense and painful - our body will be giving us an amazing cocktail of hormones to help us to cope and an opportunity to find a strength we never knew we had.

At the heart of both experiences are very similar skills-

❤Breathing
❤Positive Mindset
❤Self-belief
❤Releasing Fear

If only, society depicted birth in the same way it depicts ice baths.

✔That our minds are a lot more powerful than we can ever believe

✔That our body can withstand and even find calm or comfort in discomfort

✔That there are mental, physical and spiritual benefits from these types of experiences

✔That you don’t have to be quiet - you can be loud, primal and raw. This is not weakness - but a way of helping you cope.

❤If only we celebrated that women are strong - rather than that birth is painful❤

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums and mums-to-be! Hope you had a day filled with whatever makes you happy. For me that was a chilled morning of brekkie and cardboard box car making. A walk up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse where scrambled along the headland and watched pods of dolphins. Onto Collaroy for ice cream and a walk with mum and my sister’s family.
No where to be except with my peeps 🙌

Happy International Day of the Midwife 💜 Thank you especially to and .dahlen.
Caring for us as we grow our babies, coming in the wee hours of the night to watch over us, a huge part of creating beautiful, joyous, empowering family moments. The work you do is so important.
