🌿 Today marks a new chapter for young Australians. With the under-16 social media restrictions now in place, many screens go dark — but so many more opportunities are waiting outdoors.

We’re calling this a “turn off the screen, turn up the outdoors” moment — because we believe this shift doesn’t have to mean loss. It can be the start of something better.

Imagine more time spent breathing fresh air, climbing trees, building friendships face-to-face, exploring nature, playing games under the sun. That’s where real connections grow, creativity blossoms and young bodies and minds thrive.

📣 Important Update for Parents, Schools & Our Outdoor Community

From 10 December, new Australian laws will restrict social media access for anyone under 16 on platforms such as Meta, Snapchat and Kick. While messaging apps will remain accessible, this shift marks a major transition for young people across the country.

To support families and schools through this change, A Ky Furneaux Initiative, supported by Outdoors NSW & ACT, is launching resources and education tools to help turn screen time into green time. 🌱✨

We are proud to share Ky’s powerful messaging and encourage everyone to stay tuned - with more resources and tools coming your way soon!

A groundbreaking Victorian trial found that group-based ‘nature prescriptions’ – where health practitioners prescribe nature-based activities for patients – can deliver compelling results and value for money.

Conventional therapies can be costly and frequently involve long waiting periods. In contrast, spending time in nature offers an alternative that is affordable, widely accessible, and grounded in a long-standing truth: being in natural environments supports our well-being.
