She’s 64.
And she’s been dieting since her 30s.
For some people that might sound shocking.
But honestly? It’s far more common than we think.
For decades women have been surrounded by food rules, conflicting nutrition advice and constant noise about what we should and shouldn’t eat.
Cut carbs.
Avoid fat.
Don’t eat after 7pm.
Earn your treats.
Start again Monday.
Over time those messages become internalised.
And food stops feeling simple.
My client spent over 30 years believing her body needed fixing.
This week she messaged me saying she ‘actually enjoyed her breakfast.’
That might sound small.
It isn’t.
After years of restrictive eating, food can become loaded with stress, guilt and overthinking. Research also shows that chronic dieting often increases food preoccupation and cycles of restriction and overeating.
So no - I didn’t tighten her calories.
I told her to go and buy chocolate.
And a cake!
Not as a cheat meal.
Not because she “earned it”.
Not to derail progress.
But to practise something different.
- Permission.
And alongside that permission, we build structure:
✔ Protein at meals
✔ Fibre for stability
✔ Balanced plates
✔ Flexibility
✔ No “starting again Monday”
Not smaller.-
Calmer.
Stronger.
More nourished.
At 64 she’s learning to eat without guilt.
That’s not just nutrition coaching.
It’s unlearning 30 years of food noise.
And that matters.
If you’ve spent years dieting and feel exhausted by it all -there is another way.
