"I love blankets as they are simple and versatile. You can use them to make a cubby house, burrito rolls, magic carpet rides and the list goes on. I also love that they are an everyday item that families can use at home, too" - Bonnie

This space isn’t for our clients… it’s for our therapists 🐨

The Koala Room is where our team can pause between sessions, take a breath, and reset after big moments.

We know that showing up for children takes energy, presence and care, and that starts with looking after the people doing the work.

When our therapists feel supported, everyone benefits 💛

Children are always watching… and learning far more from what we do than what we say.

Our latest blog explores the idea of the “emotional mirror” - how our reactions, tone, and responses shape the way our children understand and manage their own feelings.

It’s not about getting it perfect. It’s about being aware, present, and human.

A gentle reminder that the way we care for ourselves is part of how we care for our kids 💛

Ideally we want our children to understand their feelings, process them and move forward in life in line with their values. We want them to notice their feelings and be brave enough to move towards them instead of avoiding or numbing them.To know which ones to listen to and which to let pass through...

April is World Autism Understanding Month 💛

This resource was developed by Aspect - Autism Spectrum Australia , whose work continues to support greater understanding of autism across schools and communities.

It’s a reminder that inclusion starts with understanding and grows through listening, adapting and creating environments where every child can learn, connect and belong.

✨ More than milestones… What if the little moments were the big ones?

Often it’s easy to focus on progress, goals, and “what’s next.” But some of the most meaningful moments happen when we slow down, stay curious, and truly meet children where they are.

This blog is a reflection on the quiet magic of connection, wondering, and the joy that can unfold when we let go of rushing toward outcomes.

💛 A gentle read for parents, carers, and anyone supporting children.

Read it here:

Being an OT is a very humbling experience, which for me, has changed significantly over time. I have learnt to ask more questions, stay with wondering for longer and respect the child's dignity in any way I can.The answer is always "it depends" and discovering, reflecting and sharing with parents is...

To celebrate the month of love, we invited children in our waiting room to finish the sentence “Love is…” 💗

They wrote their answers on a card and popped them into our Valentine’s box. Their responses remind us how children see connection, friendship and care in such simple and meaningful ways.

WHAT WE DO

Playsense occupational therapy for children is a behaviour therapy and occupational therapy service for children in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney. We are a small team who see children with difficulties with; gross motor skills, fine motor skills, visual perception skills, motor planning, social skills, regulation and behaviour difficulties, handwriting skills, play skills and many other areas relating to development.

We work with children and families to provide assessment and intervention that is suitable to each individual child. We often send home activities and equipment for families to enable carry over of the skills learnt in occupational therapy. We work closely with teachers and other health professionals to ensure that there is consistency in the child’s program.

We have a particular interest in behaviour and regulation and we work with many families to provide support and skills in how to develop their child’s social and emotional skills.

We are located in Maroubra Junction and we provide clinic, home and school sessions.
