As doctors, it’s so normal for us to spend our weekends at work while our families, even our little ones, get used to this routine. I always enjoy my work and truly love my patients, especially those who need extra care and support during weekends. It’s a blessing to serve them, and I pray that my love and dedication reach them fully and bring them comfort, healing, and good health.

That’s exactly what I teach in my career guidance sessions — it’s such an important skill to reflect your strengths, values, and genuine approach to patient care. When you show your passion and compassion through your words and actions, it truly makes a difference. It’s not about saying big things, but about showing who you really are as a doctor.

This remarkable achievement belongs to a hardworking and dedicated young lady dermatologist from India with MD Deramtology

A big team effort indeed as because it proves that when qualifcations and skills are correctly highlighted, issues are addressed, and detail to application and interview is meticulously followed, success is truly possible.

Achieving partial comparability in Dermatology through Australian College of Dermatology is no small milestone. The next stage may still be challenging, but after overcoming this major hurdle, we are confident that the journey ahead will be dealt with same zeal by our team.

You got the job. You signed the contract. You thought life was finally sorted…
But the BIGGER challenge for junior doctors and IMGs in Australia starts after you begin working.

In this video, I talk about:
✅ The reality of your first year after getting a job
✅ Why many junior doctors feel overwhelmed, slow, or fear failing their term
✅ The most common pitfalls – not seeing enough patients, being too slow, system confusion, lack of confidence
✅ Practical strategies to survive, improve, and excel – from patient volume, presentations, referrals, to communication and workflow
✅ How to navigate towards specialty training, general registration, or GP – without burning out

This is the truth no one tells you about working as a doctor in Australia.
If you’re starting soon, struggling in your first job, or don’t know what’s next – this video is for you

We’ve been seeing remarkable outcomes recently. Doctors are receiving Substantial Comparability and securing positions in specialties like Rheumatology and Neurology. It’s inspiring to see how persistence and preparation create real opportunities through the Specialist Pathway. To all my fellow colleagues,

I know this campaign was frustrating for many — especially when one of the states interviewed a majority of candidates but ended up hiring only about 25 candidates who held AMC 2, and even most of those were placed only on the eligibility list.

Yes, across Australia, every year job market is different — you simply cannot predict it.

The clinical exam is indeed a game changer. Compared to last year, the passing rate is better, but getting a slot and visa remains another issue with financial constraints. Meanwhile, while you’re sorting that out, slowly start preparing for it side by side — there’s no harm in that.

Second:

A lot of you might be thinking, “Why not switch to the GP pathway?”
From my experience — as an RMO or intern level — always opt for the hospital pathway. It’s more reliable and offers better support.

Third: How to secure a job with AMC 1 only?

My advice is:

Keep shaping your experience.

Work towards your clinical exam, or keep working clinically — do not create a gap.

Maintain a focused interview approach.

All of these efforts will eventually help you enter the market.

Current state-wise insight:

At the moment, we cannot comment on the most IMG-friendly state this year, but based on my experience:

Victoria – Toughest to secure a position directly for offshore candidates. However, they do offer observership programs for onshore applicants.

NSW – Focused more on IMG readiness programs, which can lead to JMO supervised practice positions.

QLD and ACT – More open for offshore candidates.

WA and Darwin – Open for those who have clinical experience.

Tasmania – Currently full; offering observership options for both onshore and offshore candidates on a waiting list.

Key success factors:

AMC 1
AMC 2
English Exam
Clinical Experience
Recency (if not, gain observership or CPD)
Top-notch interview skills
Strong EOI approach

Remember:

Others are doing it — why can’t you?
Stay motivated, stay persistent, and keep moving forward.

Dr Simra Siddiqui
