About time, did you know vi**ra has been on the PBS since 1998!
Women’s health has been left in the dark ages for way too long, This is part of the government’s 573 million package for women’s health. They can finally see that we do have different organs and health concerns to men so we just cant be expect to be treated the same.

As hormone therapy may not be everyone’s best option at least if you do need them they will be more affordable. Plus with new rebates and assessments available around perimenopause and menopause it will certainly cost less to get access to treatments, advice and ongoing management.

There are certainly more clinics popping up that specialise in perimenopause and menopause like Myma health, Lucy rose clinic and Ponti health so you can get the best most up to date advice.

After a long break I’m back this year to share more helpful women’s health info with you, but the best news I have is that I scored a scholarship to do my postgrad in women’s and children’s health, this is the first step on my path to becoming a nurse practitioner, so I can keep helping people with their healthcare and help improve their lives, prevent illness and disease and promote health and wellbeing
As I’ll be working full time, studying and working another job doing PRP for hair loss I will be extremely busy but will aim to post things as I go, they may just be few and far between which I know doesn’t work well with the SM algorithms but oh well, at least my page will have good history of reliable information that I can share with you.
So here we go

Alarming isn’t it. The senate inquiry into menopause and women’s health in Australia has just been released.

These stats have to change as many women these days have no choice but to keep working, but suffer so much while they do

Things are about to get better as thankfully they agreed that the lack of understanding and education around this has been a huge deficit in healthcare

Ladies have you noticed you are becoming more forgetful or can’t focus on tasks and get easily distracted?

This is a known symptom of perimenopause, cognitive issues arise due to lack of or imbalance of estrogen.

It’s good to know that things do get better and resolve but the best things that can help you through this is good nutrition, exercise and sleep, the 3 pillars of good health.

It’s women’s health week ladies. Here’s a little checklist you can take with you to your next doctor’s visit.

This is from the menopause toolkit out out by NSW health which all doctors that should be following, especially if they have a special interest in women’s health.

Notice on the bottom of the page it states most women in Australia go through menopause from 45-55, so if you are over 40 and you are having these symptoms and your Doctor’s says you are too young to be in perimenopause (it can start 8-10 years before you get to menopause) then slap this in their face and ask for a discount on your consult because you just gave them some advice they should pay you for.

Spotlight on progesterone, the hormone that doesn’t get much attention but is so important in women’s health.

It’s the hormone that comes in after ovulation, it helps prepare the uterus for fertilisation, if no egg is fertilised then it slowly dips down which allows your body to shed the lining and bleed.

It is the hormone that is very calming, helps you fall asleep, it is comforting and helps regulate your mood.

When there is not enough or if it sharply declines you could get sleep disturbances, migraines and headaches, irritability, PMS/PMDD, irregular bleeding or shorter cycles, breast tenderness, anxiety.

When stress levels are high or consistently elevated then progesterone plummets. Cortisol, the stress hormone, is like the bully in the playground that won’t let other hormones come out to play.

So what can we do about it?

We are holding a workshop on Saturday the 7th Sept to go over the exactly that.

If you are having trouble sleeping or getting headaches, anxiety is through the roof, you can’t find calm or just feeling completely overwhelmed then gift yourself some self care time and come along to this workshop.

If you are looking to balance your hormones then you need to know about the Hormonal Hierarchy. Estrogen, progesterone and testosterone are highly influenced by insulin, cortisol and oxytocin.

If your cortisol is elevated long term this will put you into insulin resistance which will in turn effect the production of estrogen, testosterone and progesterone.

The one hormone that trumps cortisol is oxytocin. Swipe to see how you can get your daily dose of oxytocin.

Put yourself in a loving environment and you will find your joy. Looking for a supportive group of women that lift each up through community, guidance, regulation activities and yoga then we have the place for you.

Mellowpause is our monthly women’s circle where you will find like minded women who are ready to find solutions, do the work and support each other through all stages of menopause.

Adding extra protein to my day in any way I can, also I got into baking this week as living with 2 teenage boys means there is never enough food in the house.
I used the Anzac cookie recipe and switched out white flour for wholemeal spelt, switched out white sugar for coconut sugar and halved the quantity, added in 3 scoops of protein powder, also added cinnamon, nutmeg, sunflower seeds, LSA, cashew nut butter and sultanas.
These are a great go to snack in our home right now

It’s not often that we think about protecting and strengthening our bones because the impact is not often seen until it’s too late.

Women loose bone density faster and greater than men due to the lack of Estrogen a women’s body has after menopause.

The lifetime risk of a hip fracture in women is higher than the risk of developing breast cancer. With so much marketing and campaigns behind breast cancer we often forget about Osteoporosis.

Well I’m here to let you know some great things you can start doing now to slow down the decline of bone density and improve strength so that you can prevent frailty.

Come to Mellowpause, Saturday 3rd of August, 11am in Matraville
